JLL
1. Description of the symptoms, obvious signs of disease and behaviour of your fish. (wounds, nodules, erratic movement/breathing, feeding pattern etc.) See pics, pretty obvious. Started as a pimple looking lump that then grew and ruptured. Seems to be mostly OK otherwise but it a little off food (eats a bit though). 2. List the fish that are exhibiting the above symptoms/behaviour: genus and species name. (some diseases and health concerns are more prevalent in certain types of fish) Just the calvus in the pics 3. When and how did the symptons/behaviour start? (when and how did you first notice the problem) about a week ago. 4. How old are the affected/sick fish? (age can also be a determining factor) about 2 and a half 5. Have any new fish been added to the tank? (if "yes", when were they added, how many, from where did they originate and what type of fish were they?) Yes (I know I know, quarantine.....) 2 fish from a sponsor LFS. A Placidochromis phenochilus and an Aulonocara maulana 6. Has anything 'special' happened recently? (eg. water change, power failure, change of water conditioners/addition of chemicals, new plants/decor/substrate, treatment for other diseases, been away for a few days, house painted/fumagated, new pets, grand children banging on the glass etc.) Unfortunately it appears that the phenochilus had white spot (missed it at the time) which was treated with a wardleys ick treatment and some extra salt. 7. What are the water parameters? (where relevant) - pH = 8 - Temp = 28 for the whitespot treatment - NH3 = neg - NO2 = neg - NO3 = neg sorry, dont have any other information on the water conditions. 8. Describe the aquarium and its contents (age, size, filter size/capacity, rocks/substrate/coral type, fish and plant species still in the tank) 350 liters, running as is for 3 years, an Eheim professionel II 2028 and an aqua clear 500 hang on, some bushrock and run of the mill ornaments that have been there the whole time, some java fern. 9. When was the water last changed and how much was changed? (include description of procedure) Been doing weekly water changes of about 40% especially because of the whitespot. Slowly from the hose so there is not too much of a temp drop. 10. When was the filter last cleaned? (describe procedure followed) Hang on about 2 weeks ago in tank water, same as normal. Eheim cleaned about 2 months ago, same procedure. 11. What brand and type of food has been used over the past month? (include treats/live foods/vegetables) NLS Cichlid formula. I think the pics tell the story.......... No other fish seem ill at the moment and there is no sign of whitespot, think I got it pretty early because even the 3 clown loaches never had a spot. Colfish
unfortuantley, this is a problem that calvus are prone to. don't worry about meds just keep the water clean. it will heal up, but he will be left with a 'rhino horn' the favourite theory is mechanical damage, usually a dislocation of the top jaw. i've never seen the dislocated jaw sympton but i've seen what your fish has, from the small pimple to the eruption than a small 'horn' is it a fault? he will happly live on
JLL
Thanks Colfish, I can deal with a deformed nose, I have one of those myself. If it will be OK then I have no dramas with the rest.
