bernzwong
hey guys was considering getting a standard raw pine stand made - but with extra height. it is based on the standard 4ft pine stands you see at LFS. however instead of being 2ft off the ground i want it custom made to be 3ft off the ground. would this pose a problem? now, what i intend to be on the stand is actually... 2x standard 2footers (2ftx12x12) lined up next to each other on the 4ft stand. my reasoning is purely to have 1 growout tank and maybe another tank to keep a smaller colony - or even 2 growout tanks! what do you guys think? is the stand feasible - any forseable problems with the height or having 2x 2fters on it? cheers. bernie
electricyellowz
YOu may aswell get a 4ft tank on it if you wanted to do 2 grow out tanks. Much easier and would look better too.
milhouse
I just got given another 4ft tank myself and am going to do a similar stand except it will be 8ft long to hold 2 x 4ft tanks side by side. I figured it will be easier to build a new 8ft stand than trying to match the stain colour on the existing 4ft cabinet. It will just be standard height though. The orginal purchased stand doesnt really appear to be very well supported anyway....a lot of weight for the small amount of framework in it. The one I build will be a lot stronger for my peace of mind. As much as I would love to have 1 x 8ft tank, I got the tanks for nothing so will make use of them. bernzwong
Cheers for the replies. my situations is that ive got the 2x2fters for free. hence might as well make use of them. eletricyellowz: however, if i do go the 4ft instead... how would yu suggest partitioning it? ive seen the clear plastic type dividers LFS use, and that may not be so feasible as the fry can get pretty darn small. what do yu suggest? millhouse: yeah i got the 2ft's spare as well. so might as well get a big stand for two. general consensus would be a standard 4ft stand would be too low for 2ft tanks? Josh
You may have trouble with the stand being top heavy and falling over. Why not make a stand that has two 2ft tanks on the bottom and put a 4ft tank on the top. Josh
Ben Eatoff
I'd go with Josh's idea. Get yourself a rack going!
