hi all, recently my 2 geo tapajos are being very territorial to my other geos. one is male and 1 is female. they are between 10- 13cm. they made a hole under a piece of driftwood and are very territorial. is this a sign of breeding? wat should i do now? it already made one of my 16cm altifron jump out of the tank once and also made one of my 20cm heckilli jump out and died. they are all in a 6ft tank. plz give suggestions cheers.

Have you checked whether they're holding? Also whether or not any breeding tubes are down.

umm r they mouth brooders? if so im not sure but i dun think so. all i know is whenever a fish comes near em the male or female attacks them. how do i know if they're breeding tubes r down?

They spawn on open substrate and will pick the wrigglers up and mouthbrood then. This is about 24 hours from fertilisation which will happen straight away. The female will lay a straight line of eggs and the male then follows and fertilises the eggs, this continues until all eggs are laid and fertilised.

should i put a separator? wat do i do with the pair and the eggs?

Depending on other tank mates and the size of the tank but my Tapas breed a community tank with Altifrons,Abalios.Heckelii and many other Geo,s and plecos without a problem whatsoever. They are very good parents.

Oh ok, they r in a 6ft tank. there are only geos, BNs and one small peppermint in the tank. this is the first day that they have laid the eggs. wat should i do in these next days?

The best thing you can do is let them be,they will look after themselves and their young quite adequately. Feed the tank as normal and do water changes as normal(just don't use the gravel vac).In about 10 days they will dig little pits and release the fry for short periods of time but will continue to mouthbrood for up to 10 days after that.

It's up to you if you want to strip the parents after about 8-9 days or not.I always do but that's personal choice.

Good Luck.

I think everyone's covered most of it, but maybe making sure you have tight fitting coverglass might help witht he kamakzie fish man! Ha ha! :-)

Good luck with the parents, they are top fish! My pair have just spawned for the first time in their new breeder tank, so hopefully I'll have some bubs too! :-)

Cheers,

Pete.
