The mother will spit naturally at around 3 weeks. If she is new to holding don't expect her to hold full time. To help the mum you should try and put her in a separate tank. This will also help to ensure the survival of the fry.

I have found lombardoi (any mbuna really) to be the rabbits of the fish world when it comes to breeding :) .

She will do what comes naturally to her and i agree with Bruce to ensure the survival of the fry place mum in a holding tank if you have one otherwise a home made fry saver will do.

I still have an amazing breeding lomardoi colony that step breed with their clan - quite a sight to see considering their aggression :B
