malawi and bristlenose fry.

Recommended Posts

hi all,

ive seen a few posts about tangs particularly tropheus eating bristlenose fry and contracting bloat.

does this apply to mbuna and haps. from malawi.

can someone please explain, are they poisonous to eat or are certain species more succeptable.

are fry eaters like electric blues o.k. with breeding bristles.

I don't think it would apply as much, especially with the haps as they are carnivores so the protein wouldn't effect them. The mbuna can take more protein than the tropheus but still shouldn't have huge amounts.

With your Mbuna or any African cichlid whose diet is primarily vegetarian I think a good rule of thumb is small amounts of protein such as blood-worm from time to time is fine but avoid large pure protein hits on a regular basis.

have a look at this URL for a good explanation of bloat : http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/malawi_bloat.php

I'm generalising as I never give advice on fish I don't keep - soooooo whats your experience with Tropheus Bruce?

Opinions are like backsides, everyone has one. The beaut thing about the internet is the ability to conduct research before offering opinions - you might want to start with this article:

or this one

or maybe this one by Ad Konigs (he sounds like he knows what he's talking about :roll )
