Weird algae in my new tank

Hi all

I have a 5x2 cycling tank. Clean gravel, 3 anubias and two pieces of wood that I boiled. Standard cheep aquarium light(single tube). I now have a weird long hair like algae - white in colour- growing in tank, especially in/on the wood.

Is this common or would anyone know what it is, photos to come soon hopefully, and how to get rid of it?

Cheers

It may be not and algae at all, more a fungus (I think Yew is an expert on these)...

It hits my wood occasionally. I normally take it out, scrub it down, boil and bleach, then leave in the sun for a while..

had this in my tank when i set it up and it covered all my wood

you can run your hands over it it and it will wipe off easy or chuck in a few bristlenose and dont feed them it should be gone in no time i had a few fish eating it and no problems as dyclops has said i think its a fungus also

Thanks for the help and advice.

Not so much of a problem now. had a filter leak and have had to strip tank down to dry my floor.

Will keep an eye out for it if if comes back when I cycle again next week.

Cheers
