D6C1
I was at at LFS on the weekend and got into a chat with the shop guy about agressive americans. He apparently fed his with frozen pinkie mice because they are high in protein (??) and the growth rate will be a lot better. Anyone do or done this? Are pinkie mice good for them??? YeW
In small amounts I cant see any harm in it. But they are high in fat and it's not something I would recommend long term. Additionally - it is expensive (and beef heart is liable to be about the same from a nutrition standpoint).
ViS
Agree with YeW. Plus any good pellet food should contain everything a large fish needs. The thing that would worry me the most is the fact that if they spit the pinkies out when you aren't watching, you'll have dead rats floating about in your tank, or getting caught under rocks
D6C1
Yeah spat out, partly chewed mice or rats would rather disturb me actually. I dont dispute pellets, but I am just wondering. This guy was very excited about it when was he was talking.
wui39
I suppose like all things, it comes down to whether it is healthy for the fish or not. I can see the attraction of feeding mice, he might get a kick out of seeing one animal attack the dead carcass of another. But I just don't think that it should be done on a regular basis and especially not as a growth food.
