ppanther
Here's some pics I managed to take tonight of our new Peacock Gudgeons (Tateurndina ocellicauda). They are all German imports and have stunningly bright colouring which the pictures do not do justice. I'm somewhat a noob with photographing fish so they arnt great quality... but still here they are Here you can see the dominant male flirting with one of the girls. Shes not taking much notice at the moment but he's trying! The boys are quite cute, fanning their fins fully extended and nudging up quite close to the girls. Hopefully it wont be long before one of the girls takes intrest! Two of the girls... Quite out of focus sorry - the little buggers move so quickly that by the time I get them in focus they are out again :S Still at least you can see the colouration! Here are two of the boys and one of the girls exploring the battleship that was given as a gift to my partner (these guys are in her tank - mine is *full* of spawning plecs atm!) Anyway feedback would be appreciated - as would advice on keeping the little rascals in focus! Cheers, Adam
gizmo42au
German imports? Arent peacock gudgeons are an Aussie native, then begs the question, why get them imported from germany when they are in our own backyard? Cool looking fish though, how big r they? Ant
Yea they are either from PNG or Aus.
ppanther
Yeah they are Native to PNG (not Australia) - originally collected in that area by a European hobbiest, and then later collected by Australian ones. Possibly the German ones are a different morph to the Aussie ones (this is what I've heard anyway). I've been searching for these guys for a while now and when I saw they available I didnt particularly care where they were imported from so long as they were healthy and had decent colouring. These ones have really vivid colouring that the pictures just don't do justice. Shimering Cyan, light blue base colour, intricate bright red details along the body, strong red basecolouring on all fins, bordered by very bright powder yellow. Irregardless, these guys are the cutest little buggers. We picked them up a few days ago and one of the boys is already luring the girls into his cave Hopefully it wont be too long before we have fry! ppanther
Oh, and as for size approx 6cm so quite tiny... About the same size as my adult neon tetras. I love smaller species of fish

ppanther
These guys have been so cute. Most of my other fish (i.e plecs) tend to be more active at night time and hiding during the day, these guys school around the small 10gal tank they are in during the day and then hide during the night. Quite cute turning on the light to see two of them cuddled up next to eachother under a piece of driftwood!
