Is it a built-in weir?

My tank (the only one with a weir) was made by StGeorge and they like to put some of that green koi matting into the weir. They used 2 long strips and lined the back of the panels you see when looking into the tank. Does that make sense? dntknw.gif

Anyway when you looked into the tank when it was new, instead of seeing right through the glass and into the weir, you could see a green pattern caused by the matting.

These days I think the matting is full of algae etc and the weir is even less see-through.

I've heard bitumin based paints like Ormanoid or Emastak are supposed to be safe for fish, so maybe worth checking these out and perhaps using them to paint your box that way dntknw.gif

Should be able to find them at Bunnings.

Ormonoid Bitcote #3 (water based) and Ormonoid Brushable Waterproofer (solvent based) have been tested and are ok for potable water.

Just make sure they are totally dry before filling and rinse a couple of times just to be sure.

Loads of people use them in ponds and water storage tanks.

Advantage of Bitcote #3 is that it is water based (less smell) and it can be painted with acrylic paint when dry.

I actually work at Davco (Ormonoid) in Tech Services. I can send you a copy of the test report if you like laugh.gif

Drying times are longer if there is no air flow...so get a fan near it if enclosed (which I assume your tank is). HAve a read of the datasheets.
