Matts special BN caves.

There was a talk about this a few months ago at the NSWCS by the inventor himself!

Basically, you get a piece of glass appropriately cut for the length and width of the cave, cut a pot in two, creating two symetric pieces. then you cut away the base of the put on one end only and use it as an entrance to the cave. Glue the open sides down. Perhaps if you had a diagram, it would be easier...

anyone got a photo of a cave?

.  Anyone used them for other cave spawning fish at all, other than BN ??

hi Steph

i make them from smaller half pots, great for my tang rock dwarfs, all the Julie,

Neolamp.[except shellies] Telmatochromis species etc.

but i'm sure there would be a lot of other cave dwellers that would happily use them as well.

G'day

I am trialling a new version that has the opening in a vertical manner rather than the horizontal.

So far it has simply encouraged the BN's and some cockoo cats to go and hide in there. I now have it in a tank where there are none of these bothersome critters and hopefully the calvus will find it to their liking.

Oh yes and numerous pseudo's like the original caves just fine, especially if i have more caves in the tank than BN males.

OK where do I get my hands on some small ones ?? cool.gif

I think they would be great for the SA Dwarfs as well. Can you make the bottoms from perspex instead of glass ?

Cheers

Steph

PS: I cant believe I just had a clean up and threw out all my bits of broken lids and stuff rolleyes.gif

It is easier for Matty and I to use glass and we are happy with the wear and tear it endures. The caves have specific measurements dependant on which cat you want to breed - allow for the dorsal and pectoral lengths and sufficient turn around room etc. but not too much so that the cat does not feel secure bigsmile.gif

With shellies and mbuna the size appears to make little difference they just love hidey holes no matter what they are.

Use what you will LOL.gifLOL.gif
