steph
Hi Folks Am considering keeping some peppermint catfish in a 4ft tank with some Apistos. Ideally I would like to successfully raise Apisto fry. Has anyone kept these two together before ?. Ive never kept peppermints before but have kept standard bristlenose. Cheers Steph PS: the peppermints Im sourcing are said to be ~4cm so fairly young still.

mianos
I've got peppermints in a tank with a breeding pair Rainbow Cichlids. They are not a dwarf cichlid but they are smallish. I've had no problems with peppermints catching the fry. It may depend on the parents but the peppermints seem to be a little more shy than normal bristlenose and they get right out of the way quick when the cichlids chase them away from the fry when they are wrigglers. Once the fry are free swimming I've had no problems with the peppermints catching them. (I have had the parents get them more often).
nemosfinder
I have kept peppermints [both fry and adults] with a large range of fish and fry with no problem. The only time i did lose fry was when i striped a frontosa female and they were only just heads and tails and all my tumblers were ful. I put the eggs in a guppy fry saver type net,and because there wasn't enough current the adult peppermints sucked the eggs through the bottom.I wasn't to concerned because the protine boost it gave the peppermints caused both females to spawn 2 days later resulting in the best number of peppermint fry in 2 cluthes i have ever gotten......107 . But i will never make the same mistake again, and for what it is worth, everybody should keep peppermints as they are one of the prettiest catfish available without having to pay $1000s for...All the best with it...
