taybelZ
Ok i got lucky, and have a few female peppermints. One of them i've been told by many 'experts' is egg bound. However, i've seen her eggbound for last 6 months! Admittingly, i haven't had a serious attempt at breeding them. Just thrown in a pot cut in two butted together on a tile for the last month and a 1/2. Seen male stay in there quite often and the female venture into there... But now, i want to make sure the female isn't bloated or something like that... if the female was to have bloat surely she would be dead by now? or could i be wrong. Alternatively, what can i use to cure bloat? Salt apparently isn't good for them... what are my options? dave
Cuong
Peppermints need a little more coaxing than normal bristlenose when it comes to breeding. Triggering spawns dry/wet season simulations is probably your best bet.
xinguinsis
I'd be going towards trying to spawn them before treating them. They do get very fat when gravid.

xinguinsis
So what needs to happen to cure it if it is egg bound?
rae
So what needs to happen to cure it if it is egg bound? ← Sex man Sex! They only get this way because there is no male, they are in the wrong type of water conditions or they have no where to spawn. In your case I would check your water conditions, load her up with zucc and get one of the clay logs at your LFS. Mine loves those logs and spawn irregularly in anything else. They like Ph 6-7 and a water temp of around 25 degrees. If you don't have any luck with that separate them into a 2ftr so you can set the conditions correctly and PLENTY of veg. That don't work try changing your male. That don't work give up and collect stamps Kind Regards Gavin
