ppanther
Hi All, Just thought I'd mention that I put a couple of common bristleys in our 'indoor' pond for the summer to see how they would do today. I'm in Sydney so the temps get quite cold come winter but I thought it would be an intresting experiment. The pond is inside our greenroom so there is no chance of them escaping into local streams or anything. Even then - they would have to be quite athletic to make it the 1km to the closest stream without water! The pond has a waterfall so I'm hoping that will keep it aerated enough for them, however it does not have a heater. I realise they probably wont have much of a chance of surviving however as I mentioned it is mainly an experiment to see if I can transfer my millions of plecs outdoors during the summer! Has anybody else tried this in Sydney? I realise its a pretty common thing up in QLD but given the climate down here it probably isnt as suitable. I put some fancy guppies in there last Chrismas and they managed to survive through the winter (they are still in there with a few young-in's) despite the lower temperatures. I think that at least the pond is sheltered being semi-indoors it is possibly helping keep them alive. Any thoughts would be appreciated
wui39
If your pond is averaging above 20 degrees most catfish will be fine. What type of pond is it?
ppanther
Lowest temp its been was 21*C - at least through 2005... It is a large (1000+litres) inground pond using pond liner, lots of rocks, and a waterfall. It is however within our greenroom - a room adjacent to the house covered in green shade-cloth and pathed - keeping it well clear of the weather. Keeps quite warm in summer as the sun is directly on the shade-cloth and makes it feel somewhat like a glass house. Thanks for the reply
Modes
I tried to breed plecos in a 10ft swimming pool in a green house 20 years back in Sydney. Temp control was a problem during winter, I used gas heating but you may not have the same problem as you are indoors with less temp fluctuation. good luck Barry
