Ged
Can anyone point me in the right direction? I am trying to locate information regarding the introduction of Cynotilapia afra into Thumbi West Island. I know that they were introduced by a cichlid exporter at a single site (Mitande Point) of Thumbi West Island in the early 1960's. Any other information would be helpful. Ged
It was that piece of research that got me started in the first place. I thought it would be a make a good article topic. Unless someone has beaten me to it. I have found references to it in a number of other places but it is the historical information that I am trying to locate. I knew that they had been introduced to assist in the easy capture of fish for the export trade. It was near one of the export facilities.
Ged
As far as I can tell Peter Davies operated the cichlid export business that was located at Cape Maclear in the early 1960s and was responsible for the introduction of a number of different cichlids into the area. I am assuming that he was the one intoduced C.afra from either Mara Rocks or Likoma Island. From the description of the original fish that were introduced I think the Mara Rocks is the geographical variant most likely released in the 1960s. Does this ring any bells?
