wui39
Just wondering what is the easiest way to get this kind of tank stand finish. Any suggestions? Tanks Thanks
mianos
Automotive enamel maybe with a gel coat. Talk to a cabinet maker (for example a kitchen fab guy) and they can make a cabinet up with that finish to a custom size. I just got my kitchen done and I saw some cupboards with the same finish in the display centre. I was told it was 'BMW' grey. The finish looked superb. Eddie Salita
That looks alot like 2-pak to me. No visible seams. The dead smooth and glossy finish only comes from sprayed 2-pak, or enamel. You could achive very similar results with laminex. But those particular stands look like they were made from mdf, and then sprayed with 2-pak. Thus water proofing them in the process. Unless you are confident with the spray gun, a mirror finish like that might be tricky. It may even be just grey melamine board as mianos is suggesting. Melamine comes in several colours. Hard to tell from those pics. HTH, Jason
wui39
I've managed to find a few more closeups any more ideas? close ups Thanks for the info so far edited by mianos: just fixed the URL for you.
Eddie Salita
There is a hint of a edge strip around the doors. So, that would suggest a laminex covered, or melamine covered mdf type board with a matching pre painted timber edging attached after cutting to size. Still cant be certain though. There is no shortage of colours in laminex Cheers, Jason
BaZ
Are you looking to do this yourself, or simply to buy a cabinet in this style? I have seen cabinets very similar to this in shops. Not sure how much they were sorry.
hardb0iled
You can do a similar finish yourself on the cheap if you have the patience, just use mdf for the panels, seal it with a few coats of an undercoat, sanding in between coats until you have a smooth even finish. Then just use an automotive spray enamel in the spray packs in the color you want from Autobarn or similar, add lots of light coats so as not to get any runs or build up in areas. Requires a bit of elbow grease with all the coats of undercoat and sanding but it will be a lot cheaper then most of the other options
