Ant
I ran into a bloke today by fluke who used to breed and sell rift lake cichlids in Whyalla for over 35 years and also owned an aquarium store most of that time. He told me he used to use sea water mixed in with rain water for his rift lake cichlids (i'd imagine that he may have used 2 parts sea water and 8 parts rain or maybe even less). He said that they thrived in all the minerals. Now i would never try this but he said he swears by it. This guy is old school and has a lot of knowledge, i was surprised when he said that hybrids have ruined the hobby here in SA because I have only met a few people here in SA who understand the problems associated with hybrids. Ged
I thought I had read something similar before and located it in article written by Andrea. Some aquarists even add a small percentage of sea water to the aquarium (around 2%). http://www.sydneycichlid.com/content/?page_id=
