Andyh
Was wondering if anyone had any experience with mozoo top filters? Saw then advertised on a sponsor website. They seem like a nifty filter design to me. Are they effective filters? They say they fit all tank designs, is this so? Cheers for any info Andy
wui39
They are regarded as the most popular filter in Asia. Their advantage is that they allow easy changing of the filter material and they do combine a bit if wet and dry. Their disadvantage is they do tend to get rid of CO2 in planted tanks though. Ash
They are also quite bulky, so if you have a hood they may well not fit. How they go as a filter, not as good a mechanical job as an Aquaclear so if you need them for mechanical you're better off going for an AC - they don't have as much "suck" if that makes sense. biologically it's just like an above tank trickle filter. I'm using one with the box cut down to fit inside a hood with just flat green scourers on it - it's working basically as an algal scrubber as it's under the flare. I just clean the algae off it weekly to export the nutrients. It's a stud 4' tank housing a severum pair (15&18cm) with a sump for primary filtration & the 700lph Mozoo as secondary/mechanical. Definitely (even in the simple form I'm using it) removes a lot of particles out of the water column but not as effectively as an AC does - however with the algae export keeps the nitrates under 10ppm. So in summary, if it will fit in your setup & you don't primarily want mechanical filtration they are a nice cheap option. I personally won't be buying another one ever as I'd rather put the money towards an AC.
Andyh
Thanks for your advice and ideas guys. Think I might give one a try, now I know that they do actually work. Thinking of using in my breeding/conditioning tanks, see if they suit me. I have no hoods on these tanks so that wont be a problem for me.
