Alan
There are a couple of "Upside downs" but S nigriventris is the one most often available. Alan
Ant
Thanks people, will they breed in a malawi tank like S. Multies? by the articles it says that they breed in soft acidic water (not Malawi), but i guess im saying is this accurate? Anthony
E4G13M4N
Will handle PH 6 - 7.4 and is a secretive cave spawner however 6 -7PH is prefered.. Most dont handle the Mbuna aggression very well IMO..
Alan
Anthony, Both the African upsidedowns (S nigriventris & S shoutedeni) are riverine, West african species. Soft to moderate acid to neutral water and are pretty shy fish. Not a candidate for a rift tank IMO. Breeding reports are frew and far between but live food in abundance will get them in the mood. I had several spawns of S nigriventrus but never raised any fry. Just didn't know enough about them or the right food for the fry. Seems they are specialist mozzie feeders when small. Not easy!!
