squidfish
Hi A while back I picked up some Cynotilapia afra (White top) but this is the first time I have posted a picture. It is always a lottery when you add new fish to an existing mbuna colony as to how the big males in the tank will react. My new introduction basically got nearly stripped of fins and scales by my male etherae. In fact it totally disappeared for 5 days and I was convinced had been eaten. He has since recovered well and has turned into a very aggressive little bundle of fins and teeth. Cynotilapia means 'dog-tilapia' and this name is thought to be assumed from their characteristic impressive conical teeth used for munching zooplankton. I think this one has been crossed with a pit-bull or something as he assumed a mid-water to surface territory in the centre of the tank and defends his space with vigour..to put it mildy. Here is a profile shot and another shot which sums up his attitude in my eyes. Cheers Rich

squidfish
You're a legend with the camera Richard! Well done, and nice fish too! ← Thanks for all your comments... Here are a couple more shots of fish I haven't photographed in a while Pseudotropheus elongatus 'Usisya', the dominant male in spawning mode and colour (they turn brown to this yellow) and a wild caught Cynotilapia mbamba 'Nhkata Bay'. Just missed his full colours with this shot by the do change colour very fast. Just got a pair of wild caught Pseudotropheus sp. 'Long pelvic' Mdoka. They were pretty emaciated by the time they had arrived after their long journey so just getting them back into condition. The bonus was the female was cholding 8 fry that are growing on well in the fry tank. Cheers Rich
Matty
Nice pics as always Richard. Any chance of some full tank shots? with tank details?
squidfish
Nice pics as always Richard. Any chance of some full tank shots? with tank details? ← Hi Matty Here is a shot of the tank when I first set it up earlier in the year. Basically the same just with more algae now. Its a 400 litre Juwel tank with a Fluval 404 and a change of the lighting tubes. Bottom is covered in a mixture of play and coral sand. The large rock off to the left is home made from foam and concrete and appears as the background on the shots above. Its a crowded tank and gets a large weekly water change. and a hello from some of the residents Cheers Rich
