I recently got some clown loaches which caused a whitspot out break. The loaches died, so did my Neet.

All i have left is a big old cuban who is constantly bashing his side agains the wood causing scales to rip off and a making horrible wound.

Ive added salt to the tank, ive used a course of malachite green, ive used a course of protozin as all suggested by my LFS.

He has never shown signs of disease other than this self mutilating behavior.

Water ok, tho pH is a down a bit (maybe from all the meds?)

Im stumped. I need help. sad.gif

my cubans started with an outbreak of whitespot also caused by clown loaches.

It has now turned into HITH. Ive lost 4 out of 6, and looks like i might be loosing another very soon.

I hope you dont have the same problem?

I'd chuck in some melafix or fugus-aid to prevent secondary infections to his wound.

good luck wink.gif

That's a good suggestion re:melafix for secondary infection prevention.

The biggest problem I've ever had with whitespot was not the whitespot itself but the bio-filter being killed by the medications.

Make sure you limit the feeding to keep the nitrogen management under control. It might be wise to treat with prime or similar to neutralise any ammonia caused by the filter bacteria not being there anymore, definately re-test all nitrogenous compounds - don't assume you still have a cycled filter just cause there is nitrate

Good luck & let us know how it goes.

How long have you treated for so far? Whitespot has a fairly long cycle which can be sped up by turning the temp up to about 28 - 30C. In the couple of times I've had a bout of whitespot I have turned up the temp to about 30C and used Aqua Master White Spot Remedy. I do a water change on the fourth day then repeat the treatment and then it was gone. If you have scaless fish like loaches you need to use half the dosage.

Ive had the temp to 29-30 degrees for a few days now, Ive taken out all the activated carbon and zeolite from my filters, so i am starting to worry about nitrates. So its time i'll do a water change and Prime it too.

Ive been using the protozin for nearly a week.

He had some fin damage which is healing fine, he had a little bit of fluff/velvet on one eye which has cleared up, im thinking the whitespot is probably nearly eradicated. I'll melafix for secondary infection and keep using Protozin till the weekend then try to get the water conditions back to normal and see if he stops bashing himself.

Will give an update soon.

Thanyou for all your help, much appreciated.
