Ash
Hey all, my severums have spawned roughly every 10-12 days for the last month & a bit - always by day two the eggs are going white & gone by day 3. Is it likely that my male gold sev is infertile or just not aiming properly I'm pretty certian from looking at the vent that they are not both girls, and from the info on the web the gold one is male (wormy markings on face, longer body than the green girl, longer fins etc) so is he just a bad shot or is there a chance he's infertile? A cheapie book said sometimes the gold variety are infertile On a side note, my synspilums just laid eggs & that also went white very quickly. I've grown out a few juvies to find my adult boy a girl & it looks like she's ready to go at ~10cm! Looks funny as with him being ~25cm & them both chasing away the pleco & other synspil juvie. Cheers & beers Ash
wui39
could very well be infertile.....too much inbreeding among the stock here how old is he and her? were they raised from the same batch? give him a bit longer he may stop shooting blanks eventually
Ash
As far as I know they are unrelated. I've had them both 18 months from about 4cm (green female) & 6cm (Gold male), I've raised them together How long should I wait? Like buy a few juvie gold sevs now & if no babies by the time they are raised start with another pair?
wui39
their still quite young at 4 and 6cm....maybe let them grow up a bit more before trying again

wui39
ahhhhh sorry for my error.....i didnt realise that they were that big....he didn't give me any measurements as to their current size my suggestion is to let them be apart for a little while...make sure they are in really good condition to breed then put them back together

Ash
more like lexdisia in reverse And yeah, Cameron is dead right about their size. Male almost 20cm female just a shade over 15cm Good idea about seperating them, just need the tank space, hrm... Would you put a male sev in a mixed 7'x15"x15" CA tank? Two 15-18cm texas, 22cm blackbelt, 15cm salvini, 12cm JD & breeding cons - just worried about the blackbelt killing him for some strange reason
