hey all heading in the direction of setting up a T tank in my room and just wondering if anyone can recommend a canister filter that's extremely quite and dose 1500 L/ph+.

cheers james

Hi James,

This may sound Bias but you cannot go past a Sacem Marathon 1500. Here is a link,

The Aqua one CF1200 is good too.. been running mine for over a year with no problems.. and it's extremely quiet! But not quite what your looking for with 1500lph I suppose. It's a good second option.

G/day James

It seems that you will have many recommendations on which cannister to choose as we all have our own preferences

I run mostly Eheim for the following reasons

quite

filtration when selecting check what media is used I have noticed that some of the so called cheaper brands have bio balls in the cannisters thus doing nothing in filtration eheim have substrate pro in them also matrix is a good filtration media to

power effciant eheims still have lower wattage than most of the cheaper filters

so what that means is that you pay more for your eheim at the beggining but the savings in power of 12 months remembering that your filter runs 24/7 and power pricing increases you end up saving in the first 12 months the difference

reliability most of the models come with 2 or 3 year warrantys

do I sound like a eheim salesman I once was

Cheers

To my knowledge, Eheims don't come with bioballs. If they did, they would be a poor choice over bio media such as Efisubstate which is what I thought Eheims came with. You don't want bioballs in a canister anyway, they are made for use in such things as sumps, not enclosed canister filters.

Typical bloody ex-sales rep - still doesn’t know his product. LOL.gif

However, I have an Eheim that is over twenty years old (probably close to thirty years old but was left unused for some of that time), and is still dead silent. I have another that would be over ten, and others around 5-6 years old. None has ever stopped working. They cost more, but you do get what you pay for. Can anyone who has the above mentioned recommended brands equal this? I'd be VERY surprised. And I have never worked for the company that wholesales this brand of filter.

If you want the best, and can forget about the price for a bit, Eheim is the only choice. It is a pity they are so expensive as it is counter productive.

Hi Jamie,

I would love to stock Eheim but unfortunately Aquatopia will not supply me as every second LFS in australia will have a whinge. Same goes for Sera from aqacenta & Seachem products. They do not enjoy healthy competition.

Surely the extra volume they'd sell through you would outweigh the whinging of the competition? Why would a supplier care, so long as they are making a sale.

I can't comprehend their logic blink.gif

They would stand to lose more sales if all the fish shops that disliked the idea stopped stocking their products. Yes Ben is awesome and AOA is great but how many people in the general public know of him and his shop. Id be fairly surprised if i were wrong saying that the majority of both companies sales would be to new and unfamilar people in which fish are more a side interest than a hobby, who are told that these products are the best.

Anyways somewhere we got off track here.

To add the the topic, I'm very happy with my CF1000 Aquaone filter, its silent and keeps the tank crystal (with the help of a small sache of purigen). It might not last 20-30 years but its kept me happy for the last 2.

I'll add my 2 cents.

my order of preference

1) Ehiem Classics (less complicated and more flexable i reckon then Pro and CHEAPER)

2) Ehiem Pro's (only a few microns behind the Classics)

3) Aqua One CF1000. It is very silent and very cheap. I thought i was in for a cheapo hunk of plastic when i bought this but i'm really pleased with it, lots of attatchments and extras. Basiclly a copy of the Ehiem Pro's however the media isn't great, use the money you saved to get yourself some Ehiem media.

oh yeah, Good work Ben (i also ordered some NLS and thermometres last night!), dont know how you do it with those prices. Can i suggest alittle more info on some of the products, or maybe include customer feedback?

Hi,

Im always improving the sections from time to time. I gain alot of business from word of mouth. The customer feedback sections on most of my competitors are copy and pasted from US websites laugh.gif
