Suitable water parameters

tam,

you are asking on the wrong forum mate. the 10cm ones you are getting are best kept in similar water to the person you are getting them off. he has the best quality cichlas in australia for good reason. he really knows his fish and how to look after them. he will give you all the advice you need, and most likely the best advice you can possibly get on these fish.

They are South American, and so general South American conditions would, I guess, be 'the rule', so to speak. pH Just below 7, soft water.

But I agree with Gav, your best bet is to liken your conditions to those of the breeder, after all, they obviously are thriving in his tanks and show magnificent colour, growth rates and they're breeding (one of few people consistently producing fry in the country)

Perhaps if you asked the question on a forum he frequented, you might better get the information you need.

ps. I have seen the pair of adults, and babysat some fry that came to Sydney from an earlier spawn, and these really are close to the best (if not the best) quality Cichla I have seen in the country.

i got mine from lungy (there i said it,honestly guys we are all adults here no.gif i think some people have been reading too much harry potter)i havent really bothered with stringent water parameters i have never tested the water in both thier tanks i just keep it clean by doing a ten to twenty % water change weekly and they are healthy and growing rapidly.while we are on this subject a quick way to get them to eat pellets is too feed them pieces of chopped up fish and at the same time as you drop it in throw in some pellets.gradually you reduce the fish and increase the pellets and the rest is history.works a treat.

Yes lungy is the right bloke to ask about these. He may dislike our forum, he may take great delight in causing us a lot of trouble, but he sure does know his fish, cichla in particular smile.gif

Contact him at your own risk, we take no responsibility for the reaction you might get LOL.gifLOL.gifLOL.gif
