Seachem Malawi buffer& Tang buffer

Hey guys Ive got a question about the malawi buffer and tang buffer by seachem...

Tang buffer claims that it adjusts pH around 9 and malawi buffer adjusts to around 8 something... and it says to dose daily until desired pH is reached...

Now arent these 2 the same? I mean you can just get a tang buffer for malawi tank and when it reaches 8 u stop dosing or you can get malawi buffer for tang tank and keep dosing until it reaches 9?

So is there a point to buy both product or am I missing something?

They do have different chemicals in them. Thats why they make two buffers. Its so you can try to replicate the lake conditions. I guess it would depend how keen you are to keep the fish in the correct water conditions. So the answer to your question is its up to you it wont affect the fish.

Hi -

I hope they are different.

Malawi buffer should be fine for most tangs.

Search the FAQ for the millions of posts on the need to use these products.

According to Seachem's website there is a difference due to the different salts that they use to buffer and the pH level that can be obtained. It can be found in their FAQs. The question related using Tanganyika Buffer with Malawi cichlids.

I recommend to use Malawi/Victoria Buffer instead of Tanganyika Buffer as they are a different blend of salts. The ingredients in Malawi/Victoria Buffer will result in a pH between 7.8 - 8.4. The ingredients in Tanganyika Buffer will result in a pH between 9.0- 9.4.

Whilst it does not state that you can not use them in each type of tank it suggests that you maintain the tank to suit the species.
