BlakeyBoyR
Hey guys, I just rang Anthony at Auburn and he kindly agreed to order in some apisogramma borelli for me. These are wildcaught fish from Paraguay so they should be amazingly coloured (fingers crossed). I decided upon the borelli simply because they tolerate a wide range of PH and are happy with hardwater. I wasnt about to foot the bill for a RO unit, so I had to chose a species that was content with homemade C02 and acid buffer to lower the PH. Borelli was it. Besides, the males are beautiful and their fin shape is very acara-ish, which I love. Here is a link to the exact same species I have ordered in, what do you think? http://www.israquarium.co.il/Fish/Apistogr...20borellii.html It is the one at the bottom of the page. BlakeyBoyR
Theyre costing me about $17 each and I am picking them up on Thursday about midday. It is a little cheaper because I agreed to be there to pick them up straight away. If the staff at Auburn had to acclimatise them and keep them in a holding tank I imagine it'd cost me more. I think thats a great price for such beautiful fish, and Anthony was so pleasant about it. No problems at all. I wouldnt hesitate to order from him again. I will post some pics as soon as I get them in. Cheers guys, Blake.
kevkoi
A.borelli is on the Bayfish price list, so any LFS who deals with Bay can bring them in for you. I've imported A.borelli before.... I hope your fish end up looking as good as the pictures. Most of the "Wild form" A.borelli that I've seen (singapore or Germany), don't look anywhere as good as the picture. Draby grey with a bit of blue irridescent flecking on the face. That said, mine have never been "wildcaught"... The pretty looking A.borelli IMO is actually the line bred variant. A.borelli "Opal". Good luck with them.
Rod54
I noticed some Borelli in a LFS here in Brisbane....perhaps these are the fish from BAYFISH??? They don't look like Borelli to me...dorsal fins not high enough and there was little colour ??? I saw Taeniatus from Bayfish at another LFS advertised as "Dehane" but they look nothing like the Dehane I got from Melbourne? Anyone else seen the Borelli from BAYFISH??? What do you think?? BlakeyBoyR
Yeah I saw borelli on the bayfish list, but with the option of choosing borelli from bayfish and choosing wildcaughts from Paraguay, I opted for the more expensive wildcaughts. I think it is aquarium industries that had the wildcaught borelli, and, because I am a nice guy, I thought I'd use my access to wholesale lists to let you all know the other AI had in stock at the moment Apistogramma agassizi 'belem wild' " " bitaeniata 'wild' " " cacatuoides " " hoppolytae 'wild' " " hongsloi 'red line' " " nijsseni " " panduro " " alacrina " " parati " " urteagai 'wild' " " viejita If any of you are actually interested in any of the above fish, and live near enough to pick them up from Auburn, it may be worthwhile giving Anthony a call and seeing if he would mind ordering them for you. From memory he will lodge his order tomorrow and you have to be willing to pick them up straight out of the wholesalers box on Thursday after midday. Hope to see some of you there picking up your apistos
wormboy
Hey all, Just seeing as we are discussing Apistos. The A. viejita "Rio Meta" I have been seeing around lately are have been fantastic. If you are looking for a great looking Apisto, at least consider these. I'm not sure if this exact variant is commonly available as I have been out of the loop a little while, but its definitely worth a bit of a hunt around! -worm-
BlakeyBoyR
Yeah I had considered the A. viejita however from what I've read theyre not very tolerant at all. They can be quite picky in terms of whether they live or just drop dead for no apparent reason. I quite frankly dont have the determination to try and replicate their exact natural environment, so A. viejita wasn't for me. Besides that though, the rio meta are stunning. Beautiful fins and colours but I imagine they'd set you back a pretty penny!

BlakeyBoyR
Hahaha, careful Budi you'll turn into a dwarf addict if you're not careful mate He is a nice fish, does that white on his back have a blue iridescence to it or is it just white? What tank is he in? What are the water conditions? Sorry for all the questions, you just seem to be going well with your apistos and was wondering how you manage to keep them thriving. BlakeyBoyR
Well I have my borelli. They were very small and quite ordinary looking in the bag. I placed them in my tank and since then I have only seen one of them sitting very sluggishly on the bottom of the tank. Lord knows where the other one is. My tank is so heavil planted I can't see a thing! Thing is, if they die ... how will I know? I don't want to have a dead body in there and me not know about it. Grrr, this is why I havent had plant tanks before. I will be beyond miffed if they dont make it.
AdamR
I have a breeding pair of borelli (at least they used to breed). I purchased them at Reef Aquariums about 6 montsh ago. They are great little fish. Mine were very colourful whilst breeding. I have mine in 6.5 soft water. Lots of plants, coconuts, and logs. I dont know why they arent breeding atm. zerospel
Hi Blake Do make sure you get the right fish, I got my local shop here to order fish from BF and when they came in they werent the right fish so they had to send them back, luckily the guy at the shop agreed that they were the wrong fish after comparing them with picture from a book. Even though BF got good reputation, people do make mistakes
BlakeyBoyR
Im 100% one of them is borelli, the other one has a stripe over its eye that doesnt seem very borelli-like however the body looks right.
Rod54
Interesting... I was talking to one of the chaps yesterday in my LFS while he was doing the ordering....he ordered 4 Borelli and 4 agassizii I went in today to see what arrived....the 4 borelli were borelli(nice)....but the 4 agassizii were the same fish being sold in another shop as borelli(ortmani??) That is confusing enough but the chap filling the order CAN'T SEX FISH so they were all males....bummer! I suppose if the chap can't tell what species the fish is...he is hardly going to be able to sex them??? Just got to find the shop where he sent all the females!
