BlakeyBoyR
G'day champ. You might want to try a marine forum for salty questions. Try this link, Reefing the Australian Away Hope that helps
Colfish
MJC if you can keep Tang cichlids happy , healthy and breeding and you have absolutely no nerve in the hip pocket!! you're halfway there you can go on the cheap, but i'll know where to look for all the 'why this' problem posts. carefull consideration to all aspects are a must. go surf the reef sites and then decide. these fish [corals] cannot be a whim or a fashion statement. mistakes are too costly. hard questions need honest answers cheers
r.d.m
mjc what colfish said is quite right, the basic principles you use in freshwater are the same, source a decent supply of natural seawater(trading post, lfs etc)and change20% weekly,2 things youll need if you want the animals to thrive are 1. a top notch filtration system preferably a minireef 2. a good quality venturi protein skimmer if your keeping just fish(reccomended at first) this is all youll need in addition to what youve already got , the cycling time etc is the same,if you want a reef tank then in addition youll need some serious lighting, all this stuff is available, but first get hold of a couple of good books and do a bit of research, i dont want to put a downer on you but youll need a lot more information than what youve asked for ,so stage one is lots of research,as bb said get on a saltwater forum theyll have faq's on setting up just a final thing to succeed in this challenging branch of the hobby you must be 100% commited both financially and with your time, if you are, the rewards are great,if youre not all youll do is kill a lot of beatiful animals, good luck
BlakeyBoyR
I looked into starting a marine tank and was overwhelmed with how much there is to know and just how expensive it can be. In all honesty, I have neither the time nor the money to get into salt water at the moment. Im content with my cichlids I have respect for anyone who can maintain and keep beautiful corals, it certainly takes dedication
