Hi Jebe.

i hope u haven't got a outbreak of bloat!

I have used metronidazole, dimetronidazole, octozin, doxycycline, Clout and Furan 2 in the past.

I think dimetronidazole and Clout r the most effective if u treat your tropheus early on during the disease process. Once they r actually physically bloated your chance of curing them is very low. I think prevention is a lot better than the cure.

Thanks dave bigsmile.gif

And it looks like I have a case cryblow.gif

3 guy are not eating since I moved them form Ballarat to Geelong

There tank was broken in the move and they were out for longer than expected

I lost one and have been treating with Metronidazole as per steves webpage

I just read tonight people have used it every day and had good results so I might give it a go if they don’t start to come good at the end of this week

How did your treatment regime work???

Thanks mate

Sorry to hear the bad news Justin! I hope it doesn't turn u off keeping Tropheus! Most Tropheus owner's would have had some experience with bloat. I think the cause here as u stated is pretty obvious. They r quite sensitive to any major changes in their environment. Hopefully with aggressive treatment they should do OK.

What type of metronidazole r u using? I have found dimetronidazole to be quite effective since it is more water soluble than metronidazole. I dose it at 1g per 50L (using a digital scale). I was treating them quite aggressively as per the sticky post in the www.cichlid-forum.com (under tropheus/petrochromis) ie. twice daily dosing. Pretty hard to overdose them. Make sure u turn off UV filters and remove carbon when dosing. May need to dose for more than a week until they r actually eating again. U can also mix about a 1/4 teaspoon of dimetronidazole to spirulina flake (1 tablespoon) and add some Garlic Guard (by seachem, appetite enhancer) to try to get them to eat it! Dose all fish in the affected tank. U may want to remove the really sick and not eating ones in a quarantine tank to reduce medication costs. By the way i buy it from Auburn Aquariums if u don't already know.

Don't be too upset if u lose some because we have all been through it. Just make sure u don't lose the whole colony!

Good Luck!

Dave
