AdamR
I am new to this board and have been reading some of the posts. I am a fan of apistos (but am struggling to raise any, but that isnt the point of this topic). Anyways through the last year ive been searching on where to get them and how. From my understanding of the posts people give up the search if they arent in a shop tank. Most shops ive been to have alllowed me to look at import lists. Most shops only import from local importers such as melbourne or queensland. This limits the ones bought in to the more popular species. Although this is much broader than the standard cacs. or aggies. There are many rarer type species on these lists. They change occasionally so if ask once a week its easy to keep track of whats in the country. THe other problem ive found with these is that its very hard to find good quality ones. This brings you to the second option ive found. Shops that import and quarantine themselves. I have so far found two but one of the posts on here suggests a third which ill look into this weekend. Anyways Aquapets at Bondi junction out of these two were by far the most hospitable. They import direct from a place in germany. They showed me a list of 30-40 types available this month, and i know last month was greatly different. The quality of these fish is outstanding. The owner Chris when i was talking to him said he'd import any types you want, and you do not have to pay for them if they are not up to your expectations. The fish are more expensive but for the quality im sure you will agree that its worth it. This is what ive found through looking, if anyone knows of other ways please post them. I hope this helps you as it took me a long time to work out how to get them. (now if anyone can work out how to fit more tanks in my house and how i can afford them please PM me =] )
Ged
What would be your top five Apistogrammas that you are looking for? Gerard
AdamR
My top 5 is hard to say. My top one is sp. Maulbruter, i love wilhemli, erenopyge (spelling), Trifasicatum and their morphs, love cacatoides, im looking for the ones referred to as gold (looks albino). Id love some of the wild aggies, Elizbethae red, sp. vielflect. There are some awesome fish out there, just a case of being patient (something which im not good at). I dont want people to get the wrong impression, im not the best person to ask questions too. I havent managed to raise fry yet (very frustrated). But i have spent a lot of time looking into what i can get. With limited tank space making sure you have i have fish im want is priortity. Anyways good luck with the searches. BlakeyBoyR
I feel your pain Adam. I have been searching for people breeding dwarves, such as apistos, but they seem to be few and far between. Hence why there is talk of starting a list to keep up to date with LFS dwarf availability. Check the thread out.
