Utaka Behaviour

I was reading that Protomelas "red empress" and Copadichromis azureus of the family Utaka are open water fish. I am wanting some fish to swim mid-water in a community tank to give some visual interest as most others I am choosing live near the bottom.

Will this work? Does it make a difference or does the small height of tanks (20') mean it doesn't really matter as even bottom dwelling fish use the full tank height?

Cheers,

G'day Scienceman,

I've got Red Empress, Kadango's, Rostratus and Dimi's amoung others in a 6x2x2. They all cruise the lower and mid levels of the tank, the dimi on the top level sometimes, (thinking of ways he can ambush someone, but he's too small).

So anything like these types of fish will cover most of the levels. thumb.gif

cheers

A 20' deep tank - I'd like to see that in the lounge room!! blink.gif

I was planning on staking up the rocks at one end almost to the surface to create like a rock wall which will bring the e.yellows and mainango's off the bottom (I hope)

Good to hear that the "red empress" is a cruiser as thats what I want.

I heard that the C. azerus are not so common, is that true?
