The ACE Inc. Big Day Out

Hi Gang

The ACE team has plans to hold a get together.

To achieve this we want to run a simultaneous function Australia wide, and make it an annual event. We need to do it in the same type of location as each other so I think that a park with BBQ gear would be the go.

This will allow all the members from each state to have a common event to chat about.

What we are trying to do here is have a social event at the same time on the same day and I would like to send some funds to the state reps to pay for some sausages, bread and soft drinks. We would also like to have the members bring a “plate” (full of food to share, not to fill with food).

We have a Mod and Admin team member in Sydney, Newcastle, Canberra, South Australia Perth and Victoria.

Willy Wombat will look after the ACT members

E4G13M4N will look after the SA members

Chilli Powder and Aquaman will look after the Victorian members

Anita will look after the Perth members

Andy and Ben will look after the Novacastrians

Andrew, Teamsherman and I will look after the Sydney members

So the plan is that we all agree on a date (looks like late January or early February) and each state picks a location.

So, I need your in put to find a day and a location for each state. A time is needed for us all to do this at the same time and on the same day. Lunch on a weekend (Brunch for Perth) would be good

Volunteers

We would also like to see some volunteers to help out with the organising and to help out on the day. So please feel free to indicate this to us if you are able to help out. In particular we need help in Perth (Anita is flat out atm) Victoria (Aquaman has a new Baby on his hands) Newcastle (Andy will have a new Baby on his hands late January) and SA (Mark is a bit crook with a sexually transmitted disease oops I mean social disease err actually I think it may be hiccups)

Sponsors please note

I would also like to see some sponsor participation so that we can run some silly events and give away some prizes. I have Sooty committed to donating about 100 feeder things. They are a plastic square with a suction cup to hold it in place and you put the fish food in them so that the food sinks before it gets a chance to make it to your filter.

Please remember that we have 6 locations happening all at the same time so we would need you to supply at least 6 of the same item, perhaps more to share the prize pool, obviously there will be more people at the Sydney event that the SA one.

I don’t mean for it to be over organised. Just a simple get together that happens all over Oz at the same time with the same easy comps that we can all play and win a prize (Regardless of mental or physical capability).

Later we can run a poll to see roughly how many will attend from each state.

In summary I want

A location (With BBQ facilities)

Date (Late Jan or early Feb)

Time (Allowing for the time shift between the eastern states and Perth)

Volunteers (All states/locations)

Sponsor contributions (something small and a few of them. Nothing major)

Thanx gang

First off I think this is an awesome idea, regardless of any organisational problems that might pop up later on. I think the two major obstacles will be the date and the place. I myself will be in QLD mid Feb. so anytime other than that will suit me, however it may not suit everyone else. As for a place, there is really two options that I can see thus far, they are to have it somewhere near the city to be fair to everyone, or alternatively, Parramatta Park, which is the geographical centre of Sydney as far as I know. I don't want people thinking I've said Parramatta park because I live near Parramatta, I was quite simply under the impression that Parramatta is the geographical centre of Sydney these days and the spot most likely to be right in the middle of everyone.

Thats my 2 cents for 12.46am, I may come up with some extra pearls of wisdom after a good nights sleep but I make no guarantees tongue.gif

Or perhaps to even out the playing field have a target put on the ground and it's closest to the centre wins?

We need to make it possible for "smaller people" and bigger people with spaghetti arms to win as well laugh.gif

Thanks for the offer wink.gif

Last time (when the forums were still at the SCP) we had an enjoyable BBQ at Homebush. This is virtually the geographic centre of Sydney (sorry, Gongers) and I think it was an ideal venue. I'm happy to help organise if required.

Definately count me in wink.gif

No matter where we have it someone will be put our or forced to drive further than others, however I dont see a way around it unfortunately aside from carpooling to help share petrol costs and make the trip more enjoyable. As far as the NSW meet goes, I dont mean to be rude but the majority of members in NSW are in Sydney, and with Parramatta/Homebush the centre of Sydney, wouldn't it follow that those places are the ideal place to have the event? I myself dont care, if I have to drive an hour I will still be there, Parramatta, Penrith or Penthurst, it makes no difference.

By the way the Canberra site will be around the lake somewhere. (Lake Burley Griffin). I also hope to do a 'catch a carp' event of some description and maybe even get the local newspaper to do a story about how us aquarists are responsible fish keepers and against the intriduction of non-native species into our waterways, but can keep aquarium fish in tanks without silly idoits introducing them to lakes, etc, or something like that. Anyone in Canberra interested in helping me let me know and i will contact you again a little later down the track.

Cheers

Oh BTW - Wollongonians will be more than welcome at the ACT site, as well as from anywhere in southern and regional NSW. YOu could bring in some fish and we could do trades. We are always looking for new species and blood in these neck of the woods. wink.gif

OK so the people have spoken and want the simultaneous thing to happen. It is suggested that the East Coast have it at 1300 hours and the West Coast at 1100 hours. What time would that be for SA? (Is this right? Could someone check the times for me please?)

Aline & Matt thanx for helping out.

I forgot to add that I checked out Parramatta Park and there is indeed BBQ's. There are two areas I thought would be best for a large group. Both of them are on the side closest to Westmead station. Most of the BBQ's seem to be around the same area, also closest to Westmead station.
