Medical Problems

I'm one of the biggest offenders when it comes to asking for help with fish sickness, medication and a guess of whats wrong. I must say that you can try and explain till your black and blue in the face but sometimes a pic tells the whole story to the experineced eye. Would it be a good idea to have a sticky that all can go to with various topic/sickness headings with a few pics attached so the inexperienced (me) could have a look. This way if I see a similar condition to what I'm experiencing, I could go sraight to any helpfull info attached that may remedy the problem, it may also cut down on the amount of similar questions being submitted to the forum.

What do you all think? unsure.gif

Yes I agree,

The FAQ's are great but my point was "a pic is worth a thousand words".

Gee, I should copyright that phrase!

I think it's a great idea.

The question is who would host the pics? If they're on people's personal web space the photos would be great for a day, week, few months even as long as the person doesn't disconnect their ISP or delete the files on the server or whatever, a box with a red "X" in it doesn't tell us anything.

Everyone can comment on whether it's agreat idea but only an admin can act on it really so I'm encouraging an admin to comment on this thread.

Cheers

Paul

I am sure hosting could be arranged between all the brother and sister forums we have going around? It could even be an identical article posted on any forum which offers the hosting of some of the pics? Share the load?

Hi Everyone,

I'm currently compiling a comprehensive article detailing symptomatic diagnosis and treatment of fish diseases we commonly encounter. It will also have details of medications, dose rates, sources, and routes of administration in it. You guys are all correct in that this topic comes up alot and there is a lot of confusion regarding what treatments to use. I am trying to write the article from a more scientific, evidence based view point if the information is available, so that we are not blindly treating our fish.

Pictures would be great to accompany this, and I'm willing to host it on the perthcichlid.com webspace permanently. If you have any pics of sick fish, please post them here or send them my way. wink.gif

Tony Corr from the PCS has also researched an excellent article on euthanasia, based on information he obtained from a fish vet specialist here in Perth. It blows away alot of the common myths and misconceptions regarding euthanasia, so I'll try to get that available along with the disease article, as we must accept that sometimes there is no treatment that will help the fish, and must do the humane thing...

Cheers

Vincent
