kevy73
Hi guys... I need a bit of help or advice... I have a standard 3 foot with about 9 E. Yellows... since the weekend, 3 have died... I have done a water change.... and there is no visible evidence of anything wrong with the dying fish... The weird thing is this, in this tank, I noticed when I did the water change 2 fish have a hole in their right side... just behind their gills and pectoral fins... I have 2 fish with this hole.... On 1 of the fish the hole is quite big (3ish mm round) and the other the size of a pinhead. These fish seem ok despite the hole, it is the others that are dying... Is this some sort of disease that anyone knows about?? If so, what treatment would be the best? Oh, in this tank is also a bristlenose catfish (I don't think he would be responsible for the holes, but who knows) Many thanks in advance... Kev Hey kev, are your yellows showing any signs of ill health in the tank? I had 4 E.yellows and one by one they all died. I think mine were being bullied by the other fish? Cause they were the smallest in the tank, but my tank has plenty of hidey holes and places for them to get away.. I didnt inspect the fishes corpses to closely, but mine seemed to be gasping for oxygen in the tank, sitting down heaps and generally not interested in taking food or anything.! Willy Wombat
A bit more info... Are they eating, are they swimming around normally, do they have clamped fins? Is it possibly a filtration problem? (is this a new tank you have just set up)? Sorry to hear about your mortality problems - hopefully someone can come up with a solution for you. kevy73
The tank only has Yellows in it... Filtration is probably not quite enough, but I haven't had problems before... regular water changes etc etc... The tank has been going for about 6 months.... first death occured Friday, then Saturday and now this morning another 1.... Thanks for the replies, I might try a salt bath for them.... It is just strange that the fish dying DON'T have the ulcer...
wiLL
try testing the pH sometimes you just never know...
BlakeyBoyR
Im assuming you've done PH, nirtate, nitrite, ammonia etc. tests? Have you introduced anything new to the tank at all? A new net, rocks, wood, fish ... anything? Have you been cleaning around the tank lately?
Willy Wombat
Kevy that ulcer is probably a bacterial infection of some kind, that might have a touch of fungal infection over the top. I would try salt and melafix to cure it. If you dose it correctly - it shouldnt hurt the other fish int he thank either. The wierd thing is that the other fish (without the ulcer) are the ones dying, and i dont have enough information from you to help you out as to a cause. Could be all manner of things - but i would start by looking at your water quality. Cheers WW
