Canberra Alex
im after some advice so here is all the info i think youll need. the tank is 90 litres 600x400x400 there are approx 30 @ 2.5-3 cm spilo fry in the tank with 3 @ 4cm multies HOB, corner filter and 600lph internal filteration one largish pot and two shells for cover ok they swawned about 2 hour ago ( ill post pics asap) so should i take the shell (with the eggs)out and place in a smaller tank with an air stone next to it or will they be ok defending their fry? if so, the only spare tank i have is a 15 litre one, will this be ok? will the parents look after the young if when they hatch i put them back in the original tank? and Approx how long will till the eggs hatch at 26*? TIA Alex
Ducksta
If possible id move the spilo fry. I am not a fan of moving shells with eggs/fry as for some reason it never goes well for me, though some people swaear by it. Also, if you were to keep just the multis in that tank i would definately lose that powerhead.
Alex
John- Maybe you don't have enough hands on experience? I have never had any problems moving shells with eggs/fry.
Ducksta
Well I dont have so much a physical problem with it, as the shells are not that heavy but I feel my yield is better by just leaving the shellies be all alone and stripping the tank when I feel I need to. Generally I believe moving the shell into an unfamiliar tank stresses the mother more than anything and when she realises wierd things are going on, her brood care gets a little slack. Then again, that may have been because the first few spawns where I experimented with different tactics for raising these tiny fry were with young inexperienced fish.
