fiona
Today in a competition (that I have spent much time preparing for) I won a brand new car worth about $20,000. Can you believe it? I almost can't still. Don't get the car for a few days - maybe Tuesday. Oh, and it's a Ford Fiesta. Must have some options coz that value is above base value from what I know. fiona
Thanks guys ... Husband's car has just basically died, not worth repairing, so keep and drive while we think about whether to sell, buy a cheaper one, and put the rest into the mortgage and save for next year (honours year for me), or keep it, and only sell if we really need to. Dunno yet. My car I got not long ago, 10yo Camry wagon, that'll stay my car as I have dogs and need a wagon.
BaZ
Well done Fiona! It's nice when all your hard work pays off at the end
fiona
Sure is Baz. I didn't win by a lot, but it was by a convincing amount. The other person who was close also put a lot into it ... just not as much as me.

Serial-Cichlid
Congratulations Fiona Do you mind if I ask what kind of competition it was? I've won a DVD player in a raffle once, doesn't quite live up to a car though Cheers Paul

fiona
Wow! Alan. A few people and I were just saying, we don't know anyone who has won a car. And now I have, and now I know about you too! I'd like to know a bit more about your story if you don't mind sharing. --------------- The below stuff is just copied and pasted from an email to my dog training club's email list, it gives the gist. (Someone asked the same question.) -------------------- It was a "Roadsafe" competition. There is a computer programme that teaches/tests road rules, and part of it is a timed response multiple choice test (240 questions in total, although there are various options of numbers of questions per test). There is a Roadsafe campaign that this was a part of. It was that part of it that formed the competition. First I went in it at my local shopping centre ... purely by chance, as we had to kill an hour there as my car wasn't ready and my husband's car was being serviced. (And that is a story too.) And got the fastest time for 10 questions, so went into the final today, which had people from 9 shopping centers in it (3 people per centre). Today, I went in a heat of 25 questions and won that, then a final of the 240 questions. And won that. As you may imagine, I have put in MUCH time and effort in learning the programme in order to give me the fastest response time. My knowledge about learning helped a lot there. I found the whole experience VERY intense. At one point my whole body was shaking (and various parts were shaking at various times). When I got home from it my dogs could smell my stress and were all over me, wanting to climb in my lap even more than usual, wanting to lick me, etc., until they realised that I was actually OK. Anyway, now it's done, and I can go back to normal life ... well almost!!
Teamsherman
Fiona, The show i was on was called "concentration" hosted by Mike Hammond on channel seven every weekday at 5pm. I was on the show on the friday, i won both rounds and did the bonus round at the end of the show (the main prize round). I missed out on the car by about 1 second!! But, still good, i was to be carry over champ for the monday. I did the show on the monday, won the first round, did the bonus round (which was always inbetween rounds) and i won the car right on the buzzer!! Everything was in slow motion as even Mike hammond didnt know if it was in or not. He confered with the judges and in slow motion, i saw the floor manager behind the camera raise his thumbs to give the "thumbs up"!!! The feeling that rushed through me is in-explainable as i was going through a hard time and to win a car was the best ticket out of my troubles. It is a great thing, so be happy and cherish it!!!! Congrats again!!! Cheers, Alan.

fiona
Thanks for your congrats everyone ... it still doesn't seem real. We haven't picked it up yet, that should be some time this week. In the meantime, it's "life as usual". Yesterday evening, I had to look at the letter that says I won it, just to make sure it was really true. Alan, gosh, those must have been some very big days for you. How ever did you get through the weekend in between? Saturday was a very big day for me, very intense, at least it was over relatively soon compared to your experience! My aunt has suggested I should get into more of this kind of competition but I don't think I would cope with the stress! I'll take a pic when we get the car and post it on this thread! fiona
What is a pee wee 50? It sounds like a strange kind of toilet humour.
Teamsherman
Pee wee 50 is a little kid size motor bike....great fun for adults and kids alike!!! Fiona, it was even harder because the first day of shooting the show was on a wednesday, then the shooting for the monday episode was about a month and a half later!!! To make things even more suspensful, it wasnt confirmed that i would recieve the car till the show was aired, so i had to wait another month after the show was filmed!!! But lucky for me the show did air, and was axed about 1 month after my episodes were aired. But it was all good in the end. You wont believe its real till you are driving away from the pickup point in your new car, believe me, its the greatest feeling!!! Cheers, Alan. fiona
Oh yes I am looking forward to it, my husband gets to drive my car for a couple of days before I let him have it I think!! He has owned a new car before (that's the one that is on the verge of dying, at least the gearbox is but the car has done nearly 400000km so fix? Not worth it) but I have NEVER owned a new car so I am going to enjoy it at least for a bit. But then I think I want my car back (not new but a wagon (Camry), which I need for the dogs, and besides, I like it).
