Filtration options for a 2'

Im trying to figure out what method of filtration to use for the 2'x20"x12" im going to be setting up. I was going to go with an aquaclear mini until I realised that output flow, or pour in this case, would make quite a bit of noise (which I dont want given that this tank will be in my bedroom and Im a light sleeper). Alternatively I could use one of the Resun IPF with the spray bar from Ben's store however given the tank is so small, I dont want to waste any more room than is absolutely necessary on filters etc.

Can any of you recommend a space-saving and quiet filtration method for my tank? Any help would be greatly appreciated! smile.gif

The hang on filters are only noisy on the return if the water level in the tank is not kept high, i found with my aquaclear300 that a drop of 25mm or so was almost silent.

The other alternative is a filtered powerhead like the aqua one 102f or 103f, they come with a double filter sponge so you can wash them one at a time and leave plenty of bacteria in the other one

On my 2fts i use...

A Resun Magic-jet 380 for mechanical filtration (+ chemical if you leave the carbon in it, but i took it out and put a bigger sponge in)

And a home-contrived air-driven filter with scoria (same principal as the ice-cream container filter on SCP, but the base is from an old clear corner filter, looks better.) for biological filtration.

Totally silent, as long as you have a quiet airpump, and if you have the spray bar not splashing heaps. I keep the outlet from the spray bar on mine churning the surface, but not splashing.

I have 4 tanks in my bedroom now, soon to add another, so i take pains to keep them quiet.

(Even so, i can't sleep when i stay at someone else's place, LOL! ...... The silence is deafening....)

HTH,

Andy.

Those are all great suggestions smile.gif I would love a HOB because it wont take up any tank space, so if Ducksta can show me theyre silent then it looks like a HOB it will be. Is there any point getting an Aquaclear mini over say, a Resun HOB?

With HOBs they are alot quieter with the water filled up, but they should always be filled up just in case of a power outage. What can happen is while the power is out if the water level is too low the water in the filter siphons out and then when the power comes back on the pump either cavitates or slowly burns itself out.
