Willy Wombat
Just wondering yout thought on what species of fish gives you most pleasure - i will go first Julidochromis transcriptus - because they are not overly challening to feed, they are charismatic, fairly active and i have had success in breeding them. Your turn Cheers WW
barramundi
I must admit I love my little Occellatus Blues. They all of 2" long yet they'll bite my hand & stand up to me when I come into the room. You gotta respect that !
discusdude
Probably petenia splenida, they are just amazing! They are an awesome looking fish, and very aggresive when it comes to feeding time.
slotha
My Oscars were great because of how human-like they were, but i've always found Firemouths awesome to. They seem to have quite a unique attiitude.I don't really know how to explain it There is also my 5 Dolphins that line up right beside each other and just watch me. They don't move or anything, just sit there all in perfect alighnment and watch me. Can get abit weird if i've got abit of company in the room Cheers Timmy the Tiger
ViS
I have a few favourites: Cyathopharynx foai - Always active and so gentle to other species. Synodontis multipunctatus - They have A.D.D. I think Astronotus ocellatus - Good ol' Hank is still the coolest fish I've owned. Dimidiochromis compressiceps - A dimi on the hunt for stray fry is awesome to watch..... Sailfin gibbiceps - Big, beautiful, graceful poo machine
Ash
spawning convicts - watching a 2" female back down a 6" RD is awesome to behold
Teamsherman
Red Devils...why? Cause i think they are the most attentive fish i have kept, my female is always at the glass to say gday and have a sook to at times. She lets me pat her like a dog, and when she has had enough she'll give me a nice little nip to let me know!! She's got the best character i have met in a fish, so for me the red devil is the best! trofius
I have to aggre with Andy a bit here my Foai are awsome, simming around dominating the tank, looking great, and yes gentle, he could easily inhale my little Xeno flavipinnis, but doesnt, if anything my little male flav shunts the big foai from his lil sandy patch.. tropheus are also a personal favorite, mega active, awsome colours, all have different attitudes, and that lovable box head. Ben
Would have to be my foai. They are my pride and joy. I love the colours and watching them build such huge, perfectly round pits is amazing.
Nigel
Seeing as i have so many i have become quite attached to Synodontis nayassa.
folkner
I love my Tropheops. They are all hypoactive all day and are also very group aware much like tropheus. I try not to disturb them but if one senses danger the whole 15 just stop with that.. what is the problem look, even when they dont know what is the problem and can just stay non moving for ages. Dominant male spends his day defending his site aggressively but never bites any fins. Great fish to get into. Cheers Folkner
anchar
Clown loaches for me...love their behaviour, the "clicking" noises that they make and the unusual patterns that are found on them. merjo
Serial-Cichlid
The Scrappy Doos of the fish world (Ocellatus - any type) For such small fish they possess so much courage and would pick fights with anything (e.g bigger/smaller fish, my hand anything!) in their path without backing down even if it could cost them their lives. Definitely a fish for a species tank. I'd hate to see what they're capable of if they grew bigger Cheers Paul
Gav
all time favourite has to be clowns. have none at the moment though . for the fish I have now, my polystigma are awesome to watch when they are hunting lil convicts. amazing hunters. Gcichlid
I have to agree with 'teamsherman'. I have a full grown 34cm male Red Devil who displays exactly the same behavior. Eats from my fingers, has a huge nuchal hump which he puts out of the water to be stroked and patted every day and behaves generally like an 'aqua dog'! When people are around he puts on a show - swimming back and forth in his tank upside down, does somersaults etc. He's a complete loner and wont tolerate any other fish in his tank. He shares with a slightly bigger Gibbiceps catfish but I had to instal a partition in the tank to keep them apart as the Devil kept shredding the plecos dorsal fin. Great fish Nick
Ducksta
Its a fine line between pleasure and pain. I would have to say my wildcaught Copadichromis borleyi. Why? They are absolutely gorgeous, but they just wont breed. I guess I am enjoying the challenge. They are the only Malawi I haven't bred within 6 months, or at least had a mouthful. hungsta
I would say occelatus as well mainly because of their behaviour. I think they have "short man syndrome"
dory
hi all, I would say the ocellatus or the A. Compressicep or calvus, they are such intresting fish. The occies have so much courage and the altos are just absolutely stunning fish. I'm at split ends but i love them both Cheers Dory
Mazimbwe
Gee...what a tough question. They all have their own appeal. Hard to beat the Tropheus...the Ikola in particular. I find my "Freaks" to be the ones that people are most stunned by. Like a lot of peep's, I think my occies are the best thing since sliced bread. The Synos are great all of em...in particular my eupterous which seems to chase the little sailfin round the tank, tickling its tail with his wiskers. Mbuna are cool as, too. And my lovely Fossi's. Nah, it would be a toss-up between the Ikola, occies & eelvis.
Chuckmeister
Hey Gav, I'm with you mate I'd never have thought I'd appreciate polys as much as I have grown too. I think it may have been maybe a price thing at the beginning. I love feeding these guys. The biggest mouth on an african I've seen and when I throw in the orca they're like feeding a bucket on a loader Sometimes I wish they would do this It might save me a few bucks Nice little list there Maz. I like your phreaks too Eelvis is da eel
Josh
I have a couple Tropheus. the way they act is different to all other cichlids Ps demasoni. for a small fish they are so agro Josh
Chilli Powder
This is such a tough question. It's like putting you in Lake Malawi or Tanganyika and saying pick a fish! oh sorry that's another topic I would have to say my shellies and closely followed by the Altos (comps and calvus). They have the best personalities
Ant
Sorry to pull one from left field but barramundi have to be the most fascinating fish in my eyes. They are so attentive and seem to display emotions unlike any other fish i have ever seen. And watching a barra feed is truely amasing. In terms of cichlids my favourite that ive kept are suprise suprise Psudotropheus Lombardoi. Anthony PS: Having said that i can't wait for my Foai and Dimmis to grow up .
