<p>My Leucos spawned tonight for the first time (WOOOT)</p><p>
It almost didn't happen really but by chance it did. I have had 8 adult leucos all sharing a 4x18x18 and 2 of them have paired up and over the last few days showed signs of wanting to spawn. i thought they still had a few days before spawning but just in case i gave their tank a clean today and removed a huge piece of planted driftwood so i could put a divider in for the pair to have some privacy. Well that sounds easier than it was!</p><p>
i knew which one the female was because her tube was down a fair bit so i had her sorted. next job was trying to find the exact male she was paired with because a few males where bidding for her attention. This meant 3 males had tubes slightly down. I picked the one i thought it was.... but i was wrong!</p><p>
after a couple of hours and to my surprise the female started laying but the male wasn't interested. i looked on the other side of the divider and one particular male's tube was way down so i did the quick switch-aroony and swapped the males. The whole time the female was still laying. luckily the new male went straight to work so fingers crossed it is a successful spawn.</p><p>
Here is the female spawning by herself:</p><p>
<img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4093/4793124556_be9202c080_b.jpg" border="0" alt="IPB Image"></p><p>
and then with the right male:</p><p>
<img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4096/4793163002_95331745ac_b.jpg" border="0" alt="IPB Image"></p><p>
Here are some of the other adult leucos... just random shots</p><p>
<img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4120/4793129208_0e0c24f527_b.jpg" border="0" alt="IPB Image"></p><p>
<img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4143/4792493101_08e2e94020_b.jpg" border="0" alt="IPB Image"></p><p>
<img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4102/4792426985_278e8192bb_b.jpg" border="0" alt="IPB Image"></p><p>
I took a quick video of them spawning... just waiting for YouTube to clear it. i'll post it then.</p><p>
fingers crossed they get it right!</p><p>
Cheers</p><p>
Matt</p>

<p>
	G'day
</p>

<p>
	Decided I needed some more space, as I have only been running two tanks. My 8x3x2.5' (tank journal below in photography forum) and a 4x2.5x1.5' (used as a grow out, currently bone dry). The reason I felt like I needed more space was to be able to separate my male rays from my females (being able to selectively breed males with my girls rather than a free for all not knowing what male has got the job done) when needed and to separate a pair or two of my Peacock Bass out (a couple pairs have formed), and give breeding a raising fry a crack. I am also going away for 7 weeks (overseas) next year and will have a family member feeding my animals (house sitting), and another friend who knows fish will be coming in once a week to do water changes.  So while yes it is more tanks, the way I'm looking at it is the amount of time to WC two systems wont be much different and I wont be getting anymore fish between now and then, so will have the same amount of fish split up over a greater water volume so should give a bit of room for error.
</p>

<p>
	I brainstormed a couple of ideas, even threw the idea of setting a pond up in my house - much to the dismay of my fiance. What I finally decided on was a pair of 6x2x2.5's. When thinking about what i was about to do, ease of maintenance was pretty high on the list and both tanks linked to a central filtration system.
</p>

<p>
	I picked up the tank stand today - Dexion Pallet Racking, modified to the correct width, beams are slightly longer to give me a bit of space for plumbing. Got these second hand locally and picked it up this afternoon. racking looks near on brand new. I have a mate who is a painter by trade, coming around early next week to respray the whole lot black, he assures me that they will come up a million bucks and look the goods. Couldn't handle looking at the orange and blue colour it is now!
</p>

<p>
	Both tanks are being drilled with 2 holes (40mm) and a weir box installed. The filtration is pretty simple, top tank overflows into the tank below which overflows to the filtration system. Which will be made up of a large food grade water container (blue drum) with 100L of K1 filter tumbling, water will first flow through mechanical media and pumped back up to the top tank. Simple and super effective. Return pump will be a Vectra Ecotech Marine M1, could have gone something cheaper but have been using one of my 8 footer and think its the goods.
</p>

<p>
	Will start whacking up photos as things progress.
</p>

<p>
	Cheers,<br>
	Alex

<p>
	I did a water change on my tank and the Lichnochromis Acuticeps fired up. He looks awesome and giving plenty of attention to the females. Not far off breeding now I reckon.
</p>

<p>
	I have tamed them up and they are hand-feeding with shrimp which is pretty cool. Anyone else keeping these at the moment?

<p>G'day</p><p>After 18months out of the game (first time in 20years!), I'm back!</p><p>I have started to clean up my 8'x3'x2.5', took a bit of elbow grease and will take a bit more to get her looking tip top again, but she is well on the way. </p><p>I have just paid for a new sump to go underneath in the empty space - the dimensions of the sump are 4'x2.5'x1.5' and comprises only two media chambers, first one will be filled with matala matting or similar the next will have copious amounts of K1 media.I won't post any pictures of the sump plans, instead i'll take some pics when it is sitting on the stand. Also got a Ecotech Vectra M1 pump as a return. </p><p>Won't be a super fast journal, will hopefully have fish in it by the end of November.</p><p>The big question is what to stock, tossing up between two completely different themes. Either a dedicated Tang tank, or stick to what I know, Tankbusters. What would everyone else like to see?</p><p><a href="http://smg.photobucket.com/user/moorrii/media/256C4192-F675-4628-BD08-5F21C86DF5C0_zpsxl0bxgbs.jpg.html" rel="external nofollow"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/moorrii/256C4192-F675-4628-BD08-5F21C86DF5C0_zpsxl0bxgbs.jpg" alt="256C4192-F675-4628-BD08-5F21C86DF5C0_zps"></a></p><p>Alex</p>

<p>Hi guys, </p><p>
So iv been stalking this size for a while now and thought I'd actually contribute. A little background story to start, I live in remote WA and have dreamt of a large SA set up for a good 5+ years, due to many reasons been putting it off. </p><p>
Well not any more, finally pulled the pin on a 6x2x2 black silicone from aqotix in Perth, and got a removalist to transport it some 1500km north. Needless to say I was stressing until it arrived safe and sound. In the mean time I set to building (part of) my stand and collecting some decor and organising some equipment. I will try and update this thread as the tank progress happens. For now il add some photos, the best part [emoji1] hope you enjoy <img src="https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170628/36b5a56023eed8c4bcf1ca8fefea70ec.jpg" alt="36b5a56023eed8c4bcf1ca8fefea70ec.jpg"><img src="https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170628/ebb28602ee0918b9da61f90bce9d4f1a.jpg" alt="ebb28602ee0918b9da61f90bce9d4f1a.jpg"><img src="https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170628/9e1d20e72b57c2d511cbd07c19588d26.jpg" alt="9e1d20e72b57c2d511cbd07c19588d26.jpg"><img src="https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170628/90d6a02d2c677fd1976f68622e478233.jpg" alt="90d6a02d2c677fd1976f68622e478233.jpg"><img src="https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170628/32890ba12ebf70946064bbcd61213e05.jpg" alt="32890ba12ebf70946064bbcd61213e05.jpg"><img src="https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170628/8ab8c1d5a8ffd5d528da2cca4f1efc7e.jpg" alt="8ab8c1d5a8ffd5d528da2cca4f1efc7e.jpg"><img src="https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170628/5fd1f4cf6ee8059eb6aa1dd4f5a3d712.jpg" alt="5fd1f4cf6ee8059eb6aa1dd4f5a3d712.jpg"><img src="https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170628/831652723a9b31e14f31a2ab2460e89f.jpg" alt="831652723a9b31e14f31a2ab2460e89f.jpg"><img src="https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170628/e3e1ddf93a852e141e8d550e681da2e5.jpg" alt="e3e1ddf93a852e141e8d550e681da2e5.jpg"><img src="https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170628/468a662ef5b055bcde6f8d0006f1c0f6.jpg" alt="468a662ef5b055bcde6f8d0006f1c0f6.jpg"><img src="https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170628/09f300c6100167d533b0f31a35c4788e.jpg" alt="09f300c6100167d533b0f31a35c4788e.jpg"><img src="https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170628/aa97a64a4eab296a17b65ec0acf8da34.jpg" alt="aa97a64a4eab296a17b65ec0acf8da34.jpg"><img src="https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170628/c23a3371341bad660c9cc5f73a0d1011.jpg" alt="c23a3371341bad660c9cc5f73a0d1011.jpg"><img src="https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170628/d5fa211b97b9ea39c038135dec62f77a.jpg" alt="d5fa211b97b9ea39c038135dec62f77a.jpg"><img src="https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170628/4e90899ceb8cc7af42a28efb2010a864.jpg" alt="4e90899ceb8cc7af42a28efb2010a864.jpg"></p><p>

<p>
	Hi
</p>

<p>
	I visited Zurich recently and spent half a day at the Zurich Zoo, have to say it was one of the best zoos I've visited yet.
</p>

<p>
	Thought you fish nuts would appreciate this one. Had a big electric eel, would have been an easy 6' long.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Also got a pretty cool video of it swimming around and gulping air. Will post it when I get home.

<p>
	A quick couple of my Metriaclima greshakei makokola reef sub dom male. Not the best. Every time I stepped in front of the tank they thought I was going to feed them and would rush that corner of the tank where I normally feed them. So could only get a few of the sub dom male. Absolutely nothing on these guys when in full breeding dress. Hopefully I can get some better ones soon.
