Have my fish changed sex

Hi brains trust, i have had my predominantly mbuna tank for over 3 years. And it has been at least 2 years since i put any new fish in it.

I have a 120 ltr tank which originally had 12 cichlids all different males..  i have lost a couple early on but about 3 months i lost the yellow lab (he was the alpha) . currently i can only see about 5 fish. (No bodies any way)

I have been doing water changes regularly but have done a deep clean of rocks etc..

So i thought i was seeing things when i saw small fish staring back it me when i was cleaning.

So can cichlids change sex? And how do i tell who the parents..

I'm not aware of any cichlids that change sex in the same way as Anemonefish or Barramundi.   It's more likely that one of the "males" you bought was a female, it's not uncommon for females to develop male colouration due to being feed some colour enhancing foods.

Dad could be any one of the male fish, to know for sure which one is mum you would need to catch her mouth brooding (look for a swollen throat).
