depends on what you purchased

there what are known as aquarium strain flame backs with no known history

there are also known locale variants that the owner should be able to tell

you what locale and who they came from

these are Makobe Is and Ruti Is

So the aquarium strain with no known history are duds??? 'Duds' in the sense that we don't know how clean it is???

Usually the case unless you get a shop that can exactly identify where they come from and don't sell rubbish

Yeah I know...

That's why I asked, I didn't want to accidentally mix them up....

Asking for verification means you have the aquarium strain. Doesn't mean they are inferior.

Like he said he does want to mix up locations.asking for verification does not mean he has aquarium strain.obviously he doesn't want to ruin the bloodline by xbreeding locations.xbreeding just doesn't fall under two diff fish mating.he's actually trying to preserve the bloodline.

If i was unsure of the variant i would just keep them as flamebacks

Asking for verification implies he does not know about the location or variant. And getting an answer from someone else doesn't mean that's correct... so they are an aquarium strain. You can still preserve a bloodline with selective breeding. It's only when introducing new stock that keeping a bloodline becomes questionable.

As previously mentioned, there is nothing wrong with keeping the aquarium strain.

Aquarium strains aren't crossed bred right???

They're just a strain of flamebacks without known locations... ie: before they started attaching locations with the name....

they are a line that have unkown history as to where they came from and if there is anything else

mixed in to give what is available as aquarium strain and they can change in appearance depending on mood

the main problem is keeping the known lines pure and separate

go for a trip to Labyrinth and see Andrew

Honestly unless you have a paper trail from the original importer......   its hard to be sure that its going to be pure. Cost is a big indicator, if they are $90 each at 4cm, then you may have the real thing.
