ozarowana
Yeah different body shape (males don't appear to get the steep forehead like cvs), body pattern (abalios have more red/orange) and lateral lines are different.

pat williamson
I know this one has a steep head but the females that were in his group were dead ringers for Alex's fish so Abalios ?
ozarowana
Your pic looks more cv... Hmm you now have me second guessing Alex's fish.Best way would be to check lateral bars Alex.I believe these are abalios, they belong to a guy up here

Wilsta
Has anyone tried keeping geos with discus? Pros and cons please
ozarowana
Pics aren't the best, but either brachys or rio Branco. Rio Branco will have diagonal stripes and brachys more vertical. Lateral spot is different too. There is a documented crossing of the two species.IMO geos will eat all the food, before discus can get their fill. myster619
WHat kind of sand do you use with Geophagus? I have a HOB filter so I don't want anything too fine.
mcsx
Generally the finer stuff is better for them as it is easier for them to sift. I used washed sand from bunnings.
Mongy
I Think its Great Geos are coming Back! They are under rated. They Are Fantastic Fish!
Wilsta
What happened with geos did people lose interest in them?
mcsx
Same as everything, they fluctuate with how popular they are at the time. Main issue in Australia is difficulty to find quality fish, as we are working on old stock, and mostly fish which have probably been interbred. Link2Hell
CooderGeo's aren't on the import list so only if they find their way hereit happens re the Dicrossus you could try Jodi at Fish Chics or sometimes they show up on Bay and AI wholesale lists as they are legals
