Filter wool - question

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I go through quite a bit of filter wool and was planning to buy it in bulk. I remember reading that spotlight sells filter wool (in rolls). Any ideas what I should be looking for when I'm there? I went there and couldnt' find any labels which indicated whether the wool was 'anti bacterial' or not so am a bit worried about risking it and buying the wrong wool. The staff had no idea whether it had antibacterial agent in it either.

I use Hobby Fill from Spotlight and it does the job. It comes in a large bag about size of two pillows and from memory think it has a humpty dumpty pic on the front of the bag.

I use the rolls of pillow stuffing, just steralise it before use and dont pack it too tight as it will restrict flow quite a bit. Its cheap and nasty but it works just as well as any i have baught from LFS's.

I use filter wool from spotlight, i buy it by the roll, it called dacron and it comes in different thicknesses, the best grade you can get is 200gsm. Its in the quilting department. Generally costs about $6 per metre and it is 140cm wide.

I might try the dracron next time I'm in Spotlight. The bad thing about the Hobby Fill is that it isn't in a sheet form so it's a pain in the behind to wash when cleaning out the sump.

I use air con filter material. Sold by the metre a most wholesalers and stands up to rigorous washing really well. Try places like actrols westaflex and polyaire. They normally stock it in white aswell.hth Patrick

Thanks for the responses guys. Sorry was out of town and didn't get a chance to see this till today.I will try out the dacron from spotlight, I was always worried their was anti bacterial agents in it so wasn't too confident about it. If other people have used it without issues, i'll give it a shot.

There are some with anti bacterial added. Make sure you get one that is 100% polyester with nothing added.
