Aquarium safe silicon

Recommended Posts

I am doing some mod's to my tank and have to get my hands on some silicon suitable to go in the tank. Is there a particular brand or type that is better to use? What should I be looking for or avoiding. There is way to many to choose from at Bunnings.

Yeh I've just used the Selley's one, think its the one in the link coz its definitely in a blue tube. Check on the back, it mentions use in aquariums so its definitely safe. Pretty cheap and has done the job for me just fine!

If it is safe for tanks it will clearly say in the writting that it is "safe for aquarium use". There are many different types of silicon as you say, but unless it says "aquarium safe" do not use it.

I have been finding that not to many manufacturers are putting "aquarium safe" on the tubes. I have read to make sure that is does not have mould inhibitor in it. Is this correct?

I would use V2 silicone as most aquarium shops use this and it's only $6.00 a tube at a wholesaler.

Product Information

Description

ZBond® Aquarium is a one component, Acetic cure, high modulus silicone sealant. It cures by

absorption of atmospheric moisture to form a flexible and durable elastomeric sealant.

Special Features

ZBond® Aquarium cures rapidly to an even consistent silicone rubber. Because of its superior

adhesion to glass, it is extremely effective as a glazing silicone. It maintains its properties

while in contact with a broad range of chemicals and over a broad temperature range.

The thixotropic nature of this product ensures that it will not slump in typical glass joints.

Typical Uses

Aquariums, terrariums, toughened Glass Assemblies.

One Part System

Being a one-part sealant, ZBond® Aquarium offers the confidence of consistent and even

cure. It also improves operator productivity, as time is not lost mixing the product, it is easy to

use in difficult locations, and can be applied out of a standard cartridge gun.

Long Life Reliability

ZBond® Aquarium has excellent natural ageing stability. It will maintain its elastomeric joint

sealant properties permanently, even under harsh conditions and temperature extremes.

How about in Brisbane?

If you use the shelleys brand , just a reminder that it's only for small volume of water ie: 2ft'rs.

If you have a larger tank I would be using the V2 brand.
