mickgibbo
Hello here are some pics of 2 of my Gold Alto Comps. I was wondering if I could call on everyones experience to sex these 2 fish. The pics are average but hopefully enough as I didnt want to stress the fish too much Fish 1 Fish

mickgibbo
Ive seen that site and it didnt help at all. I just bought 2 pairs and added my other 3 which I had no idea of sex but for some reason thought that I had 3 males. So now im interested as I dont want a tank with 5 males and 2 females. What Info/pics would help to decide??
The Gypo
i agree with Fins...females tend to be bulkier and "taller" than males
BigAL
the "fish" in the second picture has some fin damage, did you buy it like that or has that (the fin damage) happened in your tank.
mickgibbo
Fin Damage was from when I had it in the other tank and introduced it to the other fish, It hasnt been harased for a week now and they are coming back nicely
BigAL
on this info you probably have another pair female(photo 1/2) male (photo 3/4) confirmation on fin repair separate the new pair into a tank of their own with some surface fish like malasa and see if there is any pairing tendency if there isint you have 2 girls. Fins
Mick, I usually look at the profile of the vent. Males have pointer, thinner vents. Female vents are thicker. Here's a couple photos of males. male 11cm+. male 11cm+. Unfortunelty I don't have a photo of a gold female, but I did find one of my female calvus, which is very similar. female 10cm female 10cm notice how thick the calvus vent is compared to the gold male. If you have a confirmed male and female, you should be able to compare with the others. HTH Ed
Richard
Yep pretty much follow what Fins has said, also look at the stomach area of them before feeding, the feamles should be much more rounder and full whereas the males more slim shaped.
