    Bn possible problem

I asked about something like this last month when one of my juvenile bn's had a similar problem. I left it untreated to see what would happen (as behaviour, feeding were normal) and it hasn't seemed to have affected it. Don't know if your bn has the same problem, but i wouldn't worry unless behaviour or feeding patterns change. Jamo

    Java fern reproduction

Hi, I purchased my first java fern for one of my cichlid tanks about a month ago. Since then it has produced buds that developed roots and a leaf on the underside of the main plants leaves. I am assuming this is asexual reproduction and was wondering whether the buds will drop off or whether i should cut/remove them myself. Any advice would be great. Jamo
  3. Hi everybody, I just noticed that one of my bristlenose catfish has lost a whole section of scales on either side of the body along its back half. I havn't had catfish for long and wasn't sure if this was normal (malting as they grew) or if it might be a disease or attacks from other fish. Any advice from those ofyou that have kept catfish for a while would be great. The catfish is only about 2cm long and has just been moved into its current tank. It was moved with three other juveniles of the same size and species and they all appear fine. Behaviour of all fish including the catfish in question appears to be normal, all are feeding... Any suggestions. Jamo

    Fish keep swallowing

It is common for females holding for the first few times to swallow mouthfulls of eggs. I assume it is because they are still learning how to do it properly. Generally if the fish are spawning often, they they must feel good and be in good condition, so i don't think that bad fish keeping would be the cause. Jamo

    Sumps

Thanks for the information guys. Gives me something to think about in terms of sump design. Are there advantages / disadvantages to having them submerged or unsubmerged? I would have thought that having the bioballs submerged would be quieter, in terms of splashing. Plus would there be more contact with the surface of the bioballs having them submerged. Though would the amount of oxygen in the sump be reduced as a result of submersion? Any comments from those of you with sumps would be great. Jamo

    Sumps

This may seem like a silly question to those of you that run sumps, but should bioballs be submerged? Or should they just have water sprayed over them? Thanks Jamo

    Drilling tanks

I am trying to find out about linking tanks through a central filtration system and have read about tanks being drilled to connect via PVC pipes. How much does it cost to get a tank drilled, who does it, can you do it yourself, i don't know what other questions are relevant, but any information on the topic would be great. Jamo

    Holding yellows?

I breed electric yellows and had a female that was holding at only 3cm - it was likely her first time as she swallowed them all after only a week or two. The males in the tank were only slightly larger so electric yellows can breed at very small sizes Jamo

    Electric Yellow Colouration

Hi everybody, I have been breeding electric yellows for the past six months with much success. Currently have 52 juveniles from several broods. Range in size from still with yolk sac to 3cm. All male and females adults that i have been using to breed look to be good quality with no markings and bright colouration. However this does not appear to have been passed on to the juveniles as they are all a brown/yellow colour - rather than the bright yellow seen in stores (with fish of similar size to mine). I am hoping to sell them at some stage and wanted to know what others thought i could try to brighten them up. (or what may have caused the poor colouration). Food they have been fed includes cichlid flakes (OSI), live baby brine shrimp (personally hatched), spirinella flakes (I don't can't remember how to spell). Once larger they also get occasional ffedings of frozen brine shrimp. In terms of tank conditions that may have an effect. Tanks are stacked on shelves in laundry - only lit by ceiling and windows so not heaps of light entering juvenile tanks. Sides of tank have been blacked out so light is only entering from front. Tank is bare bar a few rocks and a sponge filter. Water quality is fine with no ammonia or nitrite and temp of 28oC. When last tested pH and hardness were both at levels suitable for elec yellows. Any advice would be great Thanks in advance Jamo
