Aging water

Add everything to the barrel when you add the water. Then when you do a water change the water is ready. Put an air stone in the water to keep it moving and it will last a fair while. I don't exactly know how long.

i guess if your aging water in a barrel u prob wouldnt want to leave it no longer than a period of when you do water changes say a week but on the other hand you dont have fish in there so i guess it could be a lil longer give it a test id be interested in seeing the results.nitrates etc.

  • 2 weeks later...

I have a drum that I fill up with water and conditioner to do tank top ups etc. I leave an air stone in it to keep circulation. With the chlorine and chloramines removed from the water it tends to form a slimy layer on the inside of the drum after about a week but I have used this water in all my systems and it doesn't seem harmful to the fish. In fact I once placed on of my small suckers in there for a couple of days and fished him out again and he was super fat and no sliminess left.

Hope this helps
