Tvw321
Hey all. I am currently in my final year of Vet Science and have an option of deign a aquarium fresh medicine course. And I was wondering how often people take their fish to the vet ? As I have never myself but I'm not sure how common it is? I think I polled a few questions on eagle topic to get an idea of what everyone thinks( not sure if it row keeled or not). Thanks again folks. Tom. Buccal
Hi Tom, I once had a audit like job done on my entire breeding facility,,,, water compositions of both system and supply. Also a full analysis on all the microscopic organisms living in my system being beneficial and pest. It's truly amazing and another world in the microscopic realms.Anyway,,,, google Dr Richmond Loh.He's a fish vet living in Perth,,,, he's the one I had come around.I'd say the job entails contract work, research for client information and investigations of many problems.Treating fish would only be a part.I'd say also specializing in fish would be very cut throat,,,, so spreading branches whilst still in the field,,,,, for example traveling over seas and traveling interstateProfessional charge rates are up to $300 a hour !!!!!This is just of the top of my head with shallow knowledge of this job description.Google Dr Richmond Loh and have a chat with him,,,, he's a super top bloke with extensive knowledge. You'll be glad to have contacted him,,, and may even find your self jumping on a plane to set yourself a bit of work experience with him maybe ????? Ged
Tom the use of a specialist fish vet is I believe important in the care fish. Most people have a lot of money, time and commitment tied up in their fish. I have used a fish vet before and would use one again.

Chuckmeister
I'm not sure how much business you would get including fish in a daily service. Maybe for people with rare colonys. There are a few vets around that do it.Years ago I was trying to breed albino dimi's but they were difficult to keep alive. I rang Murdoch University here in Perth and asked the vet about inspecting my fish. He jumped on the idea rather quickly to my surprise. Little did I realise he decided to bring his class over one afternoon. Had 20 students in a little unit lounge microscopes out etc. Should really have cleaned the house up that day lol I think most of them were just happy for the bus trip for the arvo.I remember him telling me that fish or aquarium related requests were extremely rare.Chuck
