Hi all,

I have a overstocked tank tropical tank with Cichids (180L) I am about to move the fish into a bigger tank, for the past month I have been getting a slimy growth in the canister filter and now spreading on all objects in the tank.. The water is very smelly despite water changes, Up to 75%.. I have replaced filter media and treated with Stress Zyme.

as said, I am moving to a bigger tank but don't want to take the problem with me..

I don't know, should I use an algaecide or what else can I do.. I have a few photos of the filter intake and an air gore but have no photos of the inside of the filter yet... (with in a week or two the water flow is dropping due to the slime).

Tanks has Cichlids and Bristlenose only

I am running a Ehiem 2217 canister and an Eheim 2012 internal filter

The loading is most likely the issue,

The stuff clogs my filters in about two weeks, it is very slimy

cut back on feeding and lights

for a start :)

and is that the japanese filter mat? in your canister i dont recommend them in canisters they clog up to easy and slow down the flow.

I use them in all my hang on's and every 2 weeks i stop the filter and clean the mat out(not the media).

I have tried them in canisters and have had similar problems use sponge(similar to original).
