==========================
Ad Konings has probably dived in the great lakes of Africa many more times than anybody other than the local fish collectors and all of them have only dived in either lake Malawi or lake Tanganyika depending on where hey live.
His first book was Ad Konings Tanganyika Cichlids that was published by Verduijn Cichlids and Lake Fish Movies in 1988. This was followed in 1989 with Malawi Cichlids in their Natural Habitat. Since them he has written and filled with numerous photographs Celebrating Cichlids from Lakes Malawi and Tanganyika, Back to Nature Guide to Malawi Cichlids by Ad Konings, Back to Nature Guide to Tanganyika Cichlids by Ad Koning, Malawi Cichlids in Their Natural Habitat (now up to a fourth edition), Tropheus in their natural Habitat and for TFH Publications Konings' Book of Cichlids and All the Other Fishes of Lake Malawi and moving away from Africa Cichlids from Central America by Ad Konings. He has also edited and contributed to The Cichlid Yearbook Volumes 1 to 6 and both Editions of Enjoying Cichlids. Ad’s latest three publications are only available as E-Books being Malawi Peacocks, Featherfins in their natural habitat and The Cichlids of Lake Malawi National Park.
Articles by Ad Konings are in most issues of Practical Fishkeeping and issue of Cichlid News Magazine.
Hopefully Ad will have a new book with him when he visits us next year.
===================
Juan Miguel Artigos Azas is mostly known to us as the creator of the Cichlid Room Companion website. The Website has been around since 1996 and by 1997 it has as much information as 900 A4 printed pages, Now it contains so much more information. The main feature of site is the lists, species descriptions and quality pictures of thousand of cichlid species. For a $30.00 annual subscription there is access to the rest site including in-depth articles and species profiles, interviews and breeding articles. There also is a forum on the site and the Ask Pam section moderated by Pam Chin.
Juan Miguel’s articles on central American cichlids can be found in various issues of Cichlid News Magazine and other publications.
=================
Spencer Jack’s first introduction to some of the members of the Queensland Cichlid Group was at the Victorian Cichlid Society's 40th year celebration in Melbourne where he talked on The Gymnogeophagus of Uruguay and Confessions of a Cichlaholic
Spencer has been active within the aquaria hobby since the age of five. A true "cichlidiot", he had worked exclusively with cichlids for over twenty years. He has since expanded his horizons to include all types of tropical fish.
Spencer has been an active hobbyist within Winnipeg for a number of years. Some of his roles within the fish hobbyist community include:
Co-founder of the Aquarium Society of Winnipeg (1989)
Founder and President of the Canadian Cichlid Association (2000)
Spencer now owns and operates a tropical fish wholesale business, The aFISHionados, and is still an avid fishkeeper and breeder.
Spencer's enthusiasm, humour and dedication towards the aquarium hobby is easily witnessed through his lectures. All of Spencer's lectures are full multimedia presentations using PowerPoint, and almost all of the pictures in use are original pictures taken by Spencer during his years in the hobby and travels across North, South, and Central America.
Spencer is a part of the American Cichlid Association speakers program.

Yeah but attendance for these events can always be better and it usually

comes down to economics I guess

to me the day was excellent value for money and your right I was surprised

that there weren't more locals there

I still have the ACA convention on my wish list and its not far away now

I would have loved to be there guys, but I work weekends and I used up my holiday allowance for my 60th birthday a few weeks ago.

But I did get to attend last time Ad Konings was in Brisbane quite a few years ago and thoroughly enjoyed that day.

Cheers, Doug

What a fabulous weekend! We really enjoyed everything about it. Great talks, amazing food and just an extremely well organised event in general. The speakers were incredible and more than happy to chat and answer all of our questions.

Hey Chris,

Have you ever seen so many healthy fish crowded into tanks in the one shop before, great filtration system, inspired me to put a Nexus in my fishroom. I love visiting Smith's and just looking around whenever I get up to Brisbane

Good to see you guys make it up here Chris.

@Pat - I didn't realise you had attended. Did you like it when Juan showed the location distribution for the (inland) coatzacoalcos and (coastal) zonatus? I asked him about the two species later and he gave his opinion about the zonatus, which I got the impression he was working on an article or update regarding its classification.... Regards, Ian

LOL @Pat - I didn't realise you had attended

He attended .... late seems he wasn't feeling well :no: and he left before the dinner

glad you asked about the zonatus/coatzacoalos as it seemed like the Atlantic/Pacific

think like Longimanus/Popenoi

maybe they are going to do to them like what they did for Synspilus to Melanurus

Chris - sp. coatza he seemed happy with, but surprisingly it was the zonatus that got the sin bin..., It wasn't clear if he referred to wild fish or captive bred.

They have kept them a lot longer than us, so might not be fresh news (think I need to subscribe to his website lol), but the words hybrid and guttulatus got a mention though... And whether his own opinion, as a collective or evidence from research data??

Sorry Kev I mistook those glasses on Gus's head for some regrowth :)

Thought of a muslim joke, but then remembered it's a public forum :)

Will have to have a word with John to ensure next time he schedules everything around me so we can all meet up :)
