Adzzy
HiI have been very busy of late and often returning home very late at night or not for a few a days at a time due to travel. My question is how long is too long between feeds and what are your thoughts on feeding fish late at night when they are sleeping? I know i could use an automatic feeder or change the hours on my lighting but work is so sporadic at the moment and could change soon enough back to normal hours so dont want to play with the settings to much. Ducksta
A couple of days missing per week is nothing to worry about for most adult fish.I wouldn't go to the hassle of messing with the lighting routine or feeding them after lights out or anything like that.Keep an eye out for increased aggression or any visual signs of undereating (like sunken bellies, emaciated heads/shoulders) but I'd be surprised if it becomes a problem. Link2Hell
2-3 days not being fed is not a problemeven a week really won't trouble them ifthey are well conditionedbetter to not feed than to have someoneelse feed and not know what they are doing
Chuckmeister
When I went off the hobby for a while, I went 6 months feeding my fish once a week with no issues. The do get lean over an extended time. Not like the huge fatties they are now. I probably feed my fish 3 or 4 times a week these days. I personally dont like feeding every day because I feel like I'm pushing too much food into the tank.I wouldn't feed at night if they are asleep. All your doing is feeding any night dwellers like pleco's, catfish, loaches etc.
