Boer
Hellooo,I'm pretty new to the forum, and getting back into keeping an aquarium. I had 2 running about 10 years ago, and only recently started out again... Amazing how quickly you forget stuff... ... ...I have a quick question on Circulation though - I have a 5 x 3 x 2, with sump. Return pump is doing about 2500lph, which gives me roughly 6 to 7 turns per hour. I however have a lot of deadspots in the tank (I have a bit of rockwork around), so even with some splitter spray thingoes returning from the sump, it seems most of the water turn only happens on (and close to) the surface, hence leaving deadspots at the bottom... The fact that the tank is deeper than it is in breath, probably also doesn't help...So, after all that, I'm looking at a wavemaker of some sort to increase turn and water flow in the tank, even if it is just to get some of the gunk from the bottom. Any suggestions on make, model, and or power of the wavemaker that I should consider?I currently stock a number of various Africans in the tank (Yellows, Blues, Marbles, Bumblebees, Ruebens, and 2x Frontosa (probably about 30 fish in total).Any help (or even alternative advise would be greatly appreciated). mjoconr
If you have the money one of these might be a good solution.Maxspect Gyre Generator.
Ged
An alternative may be the use of a powerhead with a Hydor rotating water deflector.
Frank
Hi there,I have a 6x2x2, heavily stock, 13 adult Dubs, 13 Yellow Moshi, 13 Moliros, runs on Tunze Waver controller with 2 x Tunze 6035 powerheads, plus one additional one, water crystal clear all the time. Ok running external filters (FX5 + FX6, plus Eheim pro connected to heater chiller). Tank has Texas Holey Rock, so plenty of hiding place for debris, but over all extremely happy with. Don't have the experience with sumps as living on the 7th. floor so don't want that.Just my 2 cents worth.cheersFrank
Chuckmeister
Your return rate imo is a little low at just above 3 times the volume (not including your sump volume). 3 times turnover is ok depending on your filtration, in your case a sump, though you don't say anything about your sump. Airation will happen through your sump if its set up well.Imo not much beats aquaclears for polishing and airation of water though they are not the quietest of filters. And they are cheap !! But if you run a sump chances are your used to a little water noise anyway
